Alas for the aphids (nice for wasps and plants)
These little husks started off as aphids, and were parasitized by tiny wasps.
A wasp laid an egg inside each aphid, which hatched and ate the host from the inside. Eventually the wasp larvae built pupa cases that changed the aphids' shape.
You can see that some of the mummy aphids are hollow; those wasps have hatched out and gone to continue the cycle.
