Thank you to my beta-reader @flowingwiththewater! You’re a life saver <3
Before the sun rose up from the horizon, you were up and packed. The words you were prepared to say repeated themselves in your head, rehearsed perfectly a thousand times, yet you hoped not to say them. You could only hope he’d understand when he didn’t see you once he woke up. Sitting at the small dining table, you sip your coffee nervously while you wait for the transportation to come save you and take you to the airport. Placing your mug in the sink you turn to the window to see if your cab arrived, but a tiny creaking sound coming from Jimin’s bedroom door has your eyes flying in his direction.
He emerges from the room, hair fluffy and messy, lips red and plump. He looks like an angelic dream and it only makes it harder for you to gather your thoughts. He almost doesn’t see you with eyes drowsy from his sleep. The entire night he tossed and turned, playing the events from the night before in his head repeatedly. If he wasn’t mistaken, you liked him, or at least your body did.
When he reaches the kitchen in search of a mug, you cough alerting him to your presence. Finally noticing you, it takes him a minute to process the suitcase and the clothes that you’re wearing. It looked like you were going somewhere which left him even more puzzled.
“Good morning, Jimin.”
“Good morning, ____. Going somewhere?” he questions with a puzzled look.
Shifting on your feet, you pull the chair forward, the scraping sound echoing in the silence of the room. Sitting, you tuck your hands between your thighs and lower your eyes afraid to see his reaction to your reply.
“Yes, actually. I think I need to go...I think I made a mistake in staying and…”
In one or two strides Jimin is already at the table, standing in front of you with a confused expression on his face. He looks a little angry, and you’re not quite sure what to say to defuse a possible confrontation.
“Why? Did I do something wrong? I thought we were passed everything. I thought you were okay with me. Are you still mad? Don’t go.”
Shoulders completely slumped forward and lips turned into a frown, you realize you really didn’t have an explanation as to why you were leaving. Would the fact that you were a chicken afraid to let someone into your heart be a good enough reason? How could you explain to him that you were afraid of being hurt and that because he was Jimin and not Ana, things were ten times more complicated. It’s only been three days, but in that time, he’s been absolutely perfect. Maybe it was your weakened state, or maybe you felt lonely--you weren't sure. The worst thing would be for Jimin to be your rebound boyfriend and you didn’t want that to happen.
“No, Jimin. You didn’t do anything wrong. I just think that what we had was great, but well...I need to get back to reality. You’re not Ana, and I’m not in a good place right now. So….I think I should just...”
As you stand to walk away, Jimin wraps a hand around your wrist gently pulling you back towards him. Catching yourself before crashing into him, your hand presses against his chest, and the muscles there flex, temporarily distracting you from your train of thought.
“Please don’t go, ____. Not yet..not yet…” Featherlight whispers tickle your mouth as he inches closer to your face. His one hand still grabs your wrist, while your other hand sinfully traces over the curves of his chest. You didn’t mean to slip your hand over him, but whatever he was giving off made you disoriented. It was hard to resist him when he smelled like fresh laundry and looked like a cuddly puppy. Placing his hands on your hips, he teases you by coming closer to your mouth, his own lips barely skimming over your own.
The way you react to his touch solidifies his suspicions; you liked him. He didn’t mean to behave this way, but just the thought of you walking away from him felt wrong. He knew if he let you go, you’d probably never come back, so he just had to try--see if he was right. The night before had been an accident, and although he knew he shouldn’t, he just couldn’t help testing the waters.
Silencing your words, Jimin kisses you soft and tender, smothering the words you were about to speak. Giving in to him comes easy, his calm demeanor makes you feel safe and warm. His kiss was better than any you’ve had before, causing you to get lost in the moment.
Just as you were wrapping your arms around his neck, he steps back and you miss the heat from his body.
“I’m sorry..I-- I didn’t mean..” he apologizes.
Opening your eyes and taking a deep breath, you smile at him, surprised at the way he looks like he’s done something guilty and you honestly want to kiss it away. You reason that his actions were a revelation that he was feeling exactly as you were, except he wasn’t able to hide it anymore.
“It’s okay. Don’t worry. I didn’t mind it.”
“You didn’t?”
“No. It was...nice.”
Jimin feels relieved, sighing out into the room and then smiling. Moving forward again he takes one of your hands and brings it to his mouth. “So would you mind if I did it again?”
You shake your head, nervously looking him right in the eyes. Keeping the contact with him made your insides twist with need. He was so beautiful and you find it funny how you were able to suppress your feelings for so long. Technically you knew him well, knew his fears and dreams. Every night for months you’d talk through texts, and it made you feel so close to him. Even though in the beginning it was Ana, you couldn't deny that you were happy it was Jimin instead.
Were you ready for a relationship? You weren’t sure, but one thing you did know was that Jimin was your soulmate. Why else would you come to visit someone on a whim? Yeah it was supposed to be for a friend, but in the end Jimin was still your friend, only now he was a friend who kissed you.
He eyes you warily wrapping his arms completely around your waist, worried that you’ll take off running any minute. “Are you sure, because once I kiss you, I’m not letting you go, ever.”
You take in his words, wondering if maybe you should tell him to stop, walk away now before things get worse, but you don’t. He feels nice, like he belongs with you, near your heart. Moving in closer, you finally wrap your arms completely around his neck and pull him close.
“I’m sure.”
Before Jimin can say another word, you pull him into you, kissing his soft plump lips slowly. You lick at his bottom lip, requesting entrance and are not disappointed. He molds into you, hands digging deeper into your hips. A soft whine escapes him when you bite down a little harder than intended.
“I’m sorry.” you chuckle softly, and Jimin smiles rubbing his nose against yours.
“It’s okay. I actually liked it.” He scrunches his nose cutely, kissing your lips once more for good measure.
“Well, now that we’ve cleared some things up. Why don’t you stay with me a little longer? My friends won’t be back for an entire month, and we don’t have school until then. Say yes.”
His hands move to your back gripping you tighter, eyes begging you to give in. It doesn’t take long for you to make up your mind. The puppy eyes alone had you from the very beginning. Maybe this would work out. Perhaps, this time spent together could blossom into something greater. Biting your bottom lip, you nod your head and Jimin smiles brightly. Kissing you once more, he pulls at your hand leading you to the living room.
“Okay, so I have a ton of ideas of what we could do. Sit here and I’ll be out in a minute.”
He disappears into his room leaving you a distressed mess. Your original plans had turned a complete one hundred eighty degrees, yet you could find no reason to be upset about it. Maybe this whole penpal fiasco could blossom into something real. Crossing your fingers and saying a tiny prayer, you sit and wait for Jimin to return.
___
It’s about the second week in, and you’re about to go completely insane. Ever since the kiss in the kitchen, Jimin hasn’t tried anything more. At first you thought he'd give it a day or two and let things get comfortable again. But each and everyday, you had to suffer watching him walk around shirtless or in his sweatpants, and it was killing you slowly. You didn’t want to rush things in case he had his reasons for not following up, yet you couldn’t shake the thought that maybe he didn’t feel the same as he did before. Maybe now that he really got to know you, he wasn’t interested anymore.
He’d been nothing but attentive and sweet the entire time of your stay, and yet it felt as if he pulled away from you. To make matters worse, one of Jimin’s friends came back early from his break. He lived across the hall, so that still gave you and Jimin time, but he was coming over almost everyday purely from Jimin’s invitation. He wanted to introduce you to his friend, make you feel more welcome, but it made you feel a little awkward. You started to wonder if he was doing it so that he didn’t have to entertain you himself.
It was also kind of stressful thinking about what his friend thinks of you coming to see a stranger in another state blindly, to meet an online friend you knew nothing about. Yeah, that would totally make a great impression.
___
“So you met each other online?”
“Yes,” you and Jimin say simultaneously.
“And...now you’re here staying with him...even though you just met?”
Both you and Jimin side eye each other before answering.
“Yes.”
Taehyung creases his forehead in thought trying to process the information. He shifts in his seat and then looks at Jimin before looking at you.
“So, you just stayed?”
“Well, yeah. Jimin did lie to me, and I’m kinda sore about that, but I’m willing to overlook that because we've known each other for quite a long time. It’s not how it seems.”
At your words Jimin turns to look at you turning up his chin in offense.
“I thought I already told you that I was sorry, ____. You remind me everyday that I lied. What do you want me to say?”
The air in the room suddenly turns tense and sitting in such a small room, trapped between two strangers, your heart drops in your chest. Why was Jimin suddenly acting so offended? You really hadn’t meant anything when talking to Tae. You were just answering his questions. Were you supposed to lie?
“Jimin, I’m sorry. It’s true though. I did only come here because I thought you were someone else.”
Jimin visibly clenches his jaw at your words and Tae feels like the third wheel stuck in a nightmare. Getting up, Tae brushes his hands over the front of his jeans before extending his hand out to you.
“Welp, I gotta go, but it was nice meeting you.”
Jimin jumps up, surprised to see Tae leaving so quickly. He tried to stop him, but before he could speak, Tae just eyes him subtly, sending a subliminal message that Jimin quickly understood. The moment was awkward and he had you to deal with.
You sit there watching the exchange of glances before sliding up to go to your room. Jimin walks Tae to the door and misses when you leave, the click of the locked door the only sound he hears. Huffing out in frustration he really couldn’t understand why you didn’t let go of the fact that he did indeed lie to you, but this whole thing had never been part of his plan. You came to him all on your own. And when you arrived, he owned up to his faults. So why did you bring it up every single day?
Walking across the room he realizes that maybe he made a mistake in lying to you. Did he think that this was going to be some magic love story with a happy ending? The entire situation started off with betrayal. Yeah, he originally thought he felt something, but now he wasn’t so sure. Did you even like him if you were constantly bringing up his mistakes? His feelings were all mixed up. The way you acted with him after that special morning had him so lost and confused. Every day he wanted to take a step and move forward in getting to know you, but you just kept throwing it in his face how he wasn’t Ana, and it was honestly tiring.
He walks up to your room door unsure if he should knock or just let you be. It was so completely silent, he would think you had left it it weren’t for the fact that he didn’t see you leave. Lifting up his fist to knock, he holds it up barely touching the surface, before pulling it back down. Maybe he should give you some time.
He steps back and hears a soft noise that brings his attention back to the door. He doesn’t know what it is, but somewhere along the line, while you both spent countless hours sending messages to each other, he fell for you. He knew it had been wrong, knew that you had no idea he was a guy, and yet he couldn’t find it in himself to tell you for fear of losing you. Every conversation held in that chat room was sweet, fun, and uniquely you. Imagine his surprise when you showed up to his front door. He was so tempted to lie and pretend not to know what was happening when his phone rang, but having seen you in real life only sealed his feelings even more. He was in big trouble.
He dips forward placing his ear against the hard surface of the wooden door doing his best not to get caught. A small whimper from your room constricts his heart, and he feels a thousand times worse than when he embarrassed you in front of Tae. He let his emotions get the better of him, it was his flaw. Not wanting for you to leave him like he suspected you would, he lightly taps on the door hearing your breath hitch and then silence. A little bit of shuffling was the last thing he heard before your voice came through the other side of the barrier.
“Yes?” your voice sounded broken, shaking with the little stability you forced yourself to affect.
“______, it’s me. Please open up.”
“I can’t, Jimin. What if I make you mad again? I seem to be messing things up, and I just want to go home.”
Jimin huffs harshly, letting his forehead drop against the door with a thud. He should just tell you that he really wasn't angry, he was just looking for an excuse to tell you the truth. You being here with him, spending time with him...it had all become too much. He was only used to you on the other side of the keyboard, but now, he was looking to sabotage what could be. He was afraid of what he felt. Before you both started talking, he had been through a terrible break up just like you, and even though he should be over it, he wasn’t.
Trust was something he struggled with for a very long time and he hated himself for constantly questioning himself, for questioning you.
“Please don’t leave, _____. Let me talk to you. Don’t shut me out.”
Letting his hand slip down the wooden surface, he almost walks away, until he hears the latch being undone.
Hesitantly you open the door, not sure what Jimin was on about. He only kissed you once, and the entire week after he made no move. And then suddenly in front of his friend, he embarrassed you and made you feel like shit. Why in the world did he want to talk? It was obvious he wasn’t into you. Leaving early in the morning was the best plan, but his voice coming through the door sounded vulnerable, and you were a sucker for vulnerable.
Looking up at him, his brow creases into a frown, and you wonder if maybe he was going to mock you. Before you can utter a word, he pushes past you into the room. Pacing back and forth he looks like he’s gone mad, and you’re scared of what he might say. It seemed that no matter what you did, he was annoyed, and now you really didn’t know how to behave.
“Listen, _____. I’m sorry-- I, I just don’t know how to tell you…”
“Just stop, Jimin. I get it, okay? You don’t have to say anything. You don’t like me, I get it. This usually happens when people meet for the first time. What you thought I was like online, just isn’t what I am in real life. You don’t have to worry, I’ll be gone in the morning.”
When Jimin finally turns to see you clearly, the redness and puffiness in your face makes him regret ever making you hurt. You’re looking down and all the words coming out of your mouth don’t make any sense. What did you mean he didn’t like you? He liked you too much. The words of the verge of coming out are stopped cold when you walk to the door and gesture for him to leave.
“Please leave me alone. I don’t think I can take anymore pain.”
You don’t even look at him while you wait for him to leave, but he doesn’t budge as quickly as you want. You can’t look at him, it’ll only make you weaker. Just as you’re about to break down and cry, he moves forward, and walks out the door.
Breathing a sigh of relief, you close the door all too quickly before falling to the ground in a heap of anguish. It seems that all the time getting to know “Ana” made you build feelings for a Jimin you didn’t know existed. When you hear Jimin shut the door to his room, your heart breaks into a million tiny pieces. Holding onto your chest, you will yourself to stand and pack your things. Tomorrow couldn’t come early enough.
___
JImin woke up to the sunlight beaming through the window directly onto his face. He was on his stomach, face towards the blaring light. Turning away, he rubs his hand over his eyes before all the feelings from the night before came flooding back in. Turning and sitting up quickly, he gathers his thoughts deciding that today he would make it up to you, he had to. Everything so far had been a terrible misunderstanding, and if he could just talk to you, he knew that he could make everything better.
Swinging his legs over the bed, he starts to get up when he hears the front door shut closed. It takes him a few minutes to register why, and then he’s up and getting dressed frantically, rushing to catch you before it was too late.
Finally making it to the door, he sees that the room you were staying in was empty and the bed made. His stomach drops and he rushes to the door before deciding maybe he was too late. Walking toward the window, he peeks through the blinds and catches you just as you slide into a taxi. They way his insides twisted up had him bending forward in disbelief. You were gone, and there was no way he would be able to talk to you unless you answered his texts, but he knew you wouldn’t...not when you just left him without so much as a goodbye.
Sitting on the couch with his face in his hands, he cursed himself for not telling you the truth the night before. Communication wasn’t really his strong suit, and now he was paying for it. Deciding to test his luck, he sends you a message, one he hopes will make you turn back around and come running into his arms, but it doesn’t go through. You really had blocked him completely out of your life. There was nothing left for him to do, but watch you leave.
