'there's no place like home'
the motorcycle parked at the side of the house alerts heero that duo is already home. he heads up to the kitchen to put the bread and jams away. duo is seated at the table, enthusiastically playing a game that involves loud explosions on his laptop. it is probably the same one he always plays, but heero has no way of knowing for certain.
it takes only a split second for heero to notice that duo is wearing the bracelet he gave him and it pleases heero to see him wearing it
it has not escaped heero’s attention that he has worn it every day since heero gave it to him. the thin black straps look good against his pale skin. there is an overall feeling of warmth that overcomes him when he thinks about it, and he is not entirely ignorant of what that means – or what he think that means. it is another in a steadily growing list of things he purposefully ignores to the best of his ability.
does duo sleep with it on? does he take it off every night and put it back on in the morning? does he think about heero as he wraps it around his wrist and fastens it?
‘how was your final lesson?’ heero asks as he places his purchases on the counter.
duo answers him but heero is not really paying attention. he does catch the word unnecessary in there somewhere but he already knows that duo felt that way. it has only been a little more than a month since duo bought the bike and started his driving lessons but heero is sure it feels like a lot longer than that to duo.
it’s not like heero doesn’t know how impatient duo tends to be and he recalls when duo came back the second time – and heero had offered to teach him how to defend himself. duo made it clear he did not want to wait until his injuries were healed and had not liked that heero forced him to.
it doesn’t bother him at all.
he enjoys seeing duo so passionate about things – the training – growing things – going to the market – fixing the truck – buying the bike – and most recently, learning to cook. he wonders if he had ever felt something similar. nothing stands out but he is sure that if he takes the time to think about it, he will be able to come up with something.
for now, he plans to enjoy the second hand excitement he gets just from being in duo’s orbit.
