Is this an intense pose for you? Maybe even painful? Pashimottanasana is one of the most intense back stretches. Iyengar teaches to keep a concave back. This isolates the stretch in the hips but is very hard if you don't have much flexibility, like many men, runners, soccer players etc. In that case it helps to just keep bringing your attention back to the hips, the fold of the hips, the stretch between the sitting bones.
