Allegory of Vanitas
Artist: Antonio de Pereda y Salgado (Spanish, 1611-1678)
Date: ca. 1634
Medium: Oil on canvas
Collection: Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna, Austria
Description
A winged genius embodies "vanitas," the reminder of the transience of all earthly things. Before him, objects are arranged in Baroque still-life style, suggesting the rapid passage of time, the futility of power, and the fleeting nature of life's pleasures. The tabletop bears the inscription "nil omne" (everything is futile). References to the House of Habsburg, such as the portrait cameo of Charles V in the genius's left hand, suggest a court commission.

Anyone else feels like they never grew up? I mean I wish I was as happy as I was as a kid and I sure face adult responsibilities but I never got the supposed "fun" of being a teen. I'm just a bug child w/ responsibilities. Like I see my little cousins and kids I used to play with going to highschool, drinking, having relationships... And it's not that it's bad not that I desire that lifestyle. I just feel out of place by just being here with my cat and my plushies and going to sleep at 11pm.
19th century photographs brought to life using A.I . I love historical videos and pictures , I think things like this really bring these people back to life. Just for moment they allow you to travel back and experience a moment in their lives 😊😊
My spaces are fragile: time is going to wear them away, to destroy them. Nothing will any longer resemble what was, my memories will betray me, oblivion will infiltrate my memory, I shall look at a few old yellowing photographs with broken edges without recognising them… Space melts like sand running through one’s fingers. Time bears it away and leaves me only shapeless shreds: To write: To try meticulously to retain something, to cause something to survive.
