Past cosplay flashback: Sakura (bird kimono): 〰 Here's a finished sleeve on my kimono! In hindsight, I wish I had made them full furisode length. They're made with Radiance fabric (cotton/silk blend) in the colors Scarlet and Honey. They're fully lined and open along the body side, like a traditional woman's kimono would be (from what I've gathered). The birds are painted on with Jacquard paints in various whites and metallic greys. It did make the fabric somewhat stiff, but they look pretty. Past Cosplay Flashback: Yuuko (smoke kimono) 〰 Here's the belt/obi piece for my mom's outfit (@kabocha1013)! We drafted the pattern based on her measurements while wearing the one kimono. Unfortunately, I didn't know enough about pattern making to realise I should've made it curved, not just straight trapezoid pieces. It ended up not fitting very well 😯 〰 It's made of the same cotton/silk fabric, as well as some white fabric with white lace over top. There's plastic mesh inside as a stiffener. The gold cord and buttons were stitched on last, followed by the most hook and eyes I've ever had to hand sew at one time (Let's leave that for the car ride to the con, why don't we? And then run out and have to stop at Joann's on the way?!) Past Cosplay Flashback: Sakura (bird kimono) 〰 The staff! *trumpet noises in background* AKA "thing I put no thought into and ended up starting to make about four days before the con" ... all's well that ends well? Thanks for helping, dad?! 〰 Made of rigid insulation foam sanded to shape, and covered in Bondo, then sanded. The pole is a wooden broomstick. I made the gold parts from Wonderflex and thick wire. The purple cords are just normal curtain cords (I seem to remember that color being very hard to find though) and the tassels are embroidery floss. Past Cosplay Flashback: Yuuko (smoke kimono #2!) 〰 Materials: Radiance silk/cotton in crimson, @JacquardProducts acrylic paints in white, black, and various metallic shades. The second full size kimono! The outer layer was all sewn up excerpt for the sleeves. The painting was done the same way as the first kimono, with a base layer of white followed by metallic colors, then outlined with black. Past Cosplay Flashback: Sakura (bird kimono) 〰 Somehow, cosplaying CLAMP always seems to involve circle skirts. This outfit uses two! One is plain and floor length and the other is the same, but deeply scalloped along the lower edge. The scalloped edges were satin stitched to prevent fraying and look nice. 〰 The birds were one of my first attempts at dyeing! I used Procion dyes and mixed in sodium alginate to thicken the dye into a paint like consistency.
