Okay, so. I've realized I am... very, very behind in a lot of things. So, this will be an unusual post, but I've noticed a lot of fandom intersect so!

Pitch me your favorite Sherlock Holmes thing. Adaptation, pastiche, podcast, or whatever, and I'll add it to my ever growing list. I am... very behind, so I'll take everything at one point or another.

I have watched, however: Granada Sherlock Holmes, BBC Sherlock, Elementary, Moriarty the Patriot, the Great Mouse Detective, and two Rathbone films/two episodes of Ronald Howard Holmes.

Everything else is very new to me, so hit me.(Not literally but... figure of speech.)

Bonus if you have an adjacent fandom you want to sell.

Holmes x Wilde pastiche

I have been wanting to write this up. Since I had a Wilde related class, I looked into him and his connection to Doyle and Holmes. So I found several pastiches that deal with Wilde. I'll make another post about the other pastiches that I found.

I read Study in Scarlet Marquis: Sherlock Holmes and the Trials of Oscar Wilde and it was one of my favourite reads this year.

Read the book a few weeks ago, needed some time to pour my adoration into words for the book. Long story short: Mary Pagones REALLY knows Holmes, Watson and Wilde.

I think I am part of the target demographic. I'm a lit student obsessed with queer and Victorian literature, have studied both Wilde and Holmes. So I am always a bit wary of literary works that deal with these, I think I'm a bit picky when it comes to these, the pickiness coming from a place of love.

All in all: read it!!! Here's the link to get it.

And then I found this book from an author I've never heard of, who had written horse books (?) and they pulled it off. With the delicate portrayal of Holmes and Watson's relationship, with Wilde and Bosie's character, with little nods to the knowing audience. It was amazing.

Pretty queer and sweet is actually The New Adventures of Sherlock Holmes: The Case of the Water of Life. Fantastic if you want some information about whiskey making and Scottish History. Good characterisations and spot on language. Also, solid case. Lastly, written by a woman.

And yes, you can actually listen to it in German and in English.

Hey nonnie!  Don’t be sorry!  I think you mistake our meaning.  People are upset about the Finnish producers making Holmes and Watson a straight couple, not about them making Watson female.  Or, at the least, making them straight with the perceived ”weaker” partner female.  And my point was that the dynamic described in the post I replied to has been done, even if it isn’t always openly acknowledged to be modeled on Doyle’s characters.  (Any crime show with a brilliant male lead and an adoring partner is standing partly on Doyle’s shoulders, and the partner’s almost always female.)  I definitely didn’t mean Watson’s been female a lot; I don’t think she has yet.  ;)  But if they just make her female, they’re straight-washing the story and it’s boring and unoriginal because [read here].  You probably know that, just rounding out my argument.

I’m not sure what your medium is, but if you’re writing lesbian Holmes and Watson, and writing them well, there’s no reason to think it will be badly received.  In fact, my tumblr friends and I are all here precisely because we’re starving for someone to do a proper queer version of this story on a large scale!  It would be very well received by us.  The time is ripe, so all the best to your project!  If you remember, let us know when it launches.
