FFXIV Gpose: Using the New Color Filter Intensity Slider to Add Vibrance

Hello! I'm far from an expert gposer, just someone who likes to play around and take screenshots of my elf. We've gotten some really great additions to the gpose interface with patch 7.3, and I thought this would be a good opportunity to point out some features that can make a shot pop a little more--if you're a vanilla gposer, if you don't use shaders, or if you just want to try something new.

I've been a fan of the Bright 4 color filter even before this patch. Though its applications are limited and situational, I've found it works really well with nighttime shots, and generally adding vibrance to shots that would otherwise be dark and muddy. But with the addition of an intensity slider for color filters, the usefulness of this feature is dramatically increased! If you just want to add a little bit of subtle vibrance to a shot, a carefully adjusted color filter can help.

Let's set up our shot first, a simple teatime on the garden deck during daytime with strong outdoor lighting. We have a lot of browns and neutrals in this shot, including Ariane's outfit, but also some pops of green from the lawn and garden, purple from the wisteria tree, adn blue from Ariane's clothing and the teacup. Here's the basic shot, no lights or filters added yet.

This is what the shot looks like with Bright 4 at full intensity. It's too much, so everything looks orange, and I would not have used Bright 4 for this shot before the update.

But now we can try a much lower intensity. Here's the original, and an intensity of 10, 20, and 30:

Bright 1 is another filter I recommend playing with situationally. Where Bright 4 adds warm vibrance and will make everything look orange at high intensity, Bright 4 has a green tint.

It's more limited in its usefulness, as a green filter will tend to make a scene look unnatural or unsettling, but it can have its uses, especially in shots with lots of foliage where the green is what you want to highlight.

Here's some low-intensity comparisons for Bright 1 as well:

I'm going to go with Bright 4 at an intensity of 15 for this shot, and I think I'll add some face lights as well. I like to pull the blue light forward just a little bit, to highlight the cool colors against the warm filter and make the whites look true.

And here's a side-by-side of the original shot and my final version. The changes are subtle, but they make a difference.

A 7.3 Thought on One Aspect of Death

A while back in a thread about the regulators and Living Memory, etc, I realized, and pointed out, we had no idea what happened to the bodies of deceased Alexandrians once the ushers took them away. The souls and memories were separated, one used as a battery, the other sent to the cloud (Living Memory).

But what about their corporeal forms? We know they no longer used the cemeteries.

I really think we've got an answer thanks to this MSQ.

It's quite likely breaking down the corporeal aether was always part of the process, just out of sight and mind. Otherwise what would they do with the bodies, and it would help the need for energy. Your own aether, fueling your transition to Endless and empowering the methods of fueling soul cells.

It's just now, with the robots doing it and no way to lock away the memories of the dead, we're seeing it out in the open, instead of wherever it is the ushers take the dying/dead.

Comments in the director's notes also speak of reducing bodies to aether for energy.

something i really appreciate about ff14's improvements to their graphics & animations is you get little moments like this that characterize your WOL a little. it's really endearing to feel more than ever like you're a part of the gang.

PATCH 7.3 ENDING SPOILERS

I love patch 7.3, fave patch.

Such a good story and I like Calyx, he’s a great villain! I hated him the entire time!

I love how we inspired fear in an Artificial Intelligence and psychopath.

I also feel sorry that he didn’t get the memo and SUMMONED A PRIMAL, against the WoL. The ascian set him up for failure.

Man was dammed from the start. Even if the primal could resurrect. It’d just keep dying.

Sphene and Lamaty’i continue to be roommates. And also the best characters!

I love they finally addressed how sheltered and naive Solution 9 was being in regards to death. It infuriated me at how they were so coddled from death and how they acted as if this was so unfair. Death is literally the only fairness in life. The citizens uniting and saying they need to accept reality and stop forcing their problems onto others made me smile so much.
