It's Pathetique Day!!! Watching Barenboim again.

Movement 1: Grave. Oh yes, this start is so dark. Sounds so much better than me trying to tap it out on Touch Pianist on the old iPad. I like the bits where things are just chugging along and then they get interrupted by the dissonance and we're back to the start of the movement. But also because I know this so well I know just when they're coming. There's a particularly dramatic one, we do a nice sequence on the starting theme, and then things come crashing.

Movement 2 Adagio cantabile: Oh yeah, this starts out with what I was playing on the Casio keyboard when I was 13. But then in the second repeat it gets extra harmonies I couldn't play. And we have another theme, and then it comes back as darker. Lots of repeats in this movement, feels like it's not going anywhere.

Movement 3 Rondo: Allegro : We've perked up, this is actually a cheery start! Lol no, the chords interrupt and it turns darker, though still energetic. We end on some more clashing chords just in time to repeat the cheery start. Now we get a slow theme that sounds a bit like the second movement, and we're having all the fun elaborating on it; I think this is my favorite bit of this movement. And now we're elaborating on the first theme, I like it. It's a bit darker but we're not being get hit by crashing chords. OK, I think this is the last repetition of the start, going show-off-y. Then we end with the starting them appearing darker and a flashy chord ending. (Going back to add in movement names: yep, that was another rondo. Getting the hang of this rondo thing now.)

Overall: I feel for this one especially it's hard to say much beyond, oh yeah, this is the Beethoven I know and love. (See also yesterday's post on experiencing the Pathetique through older electronics.) I am someone who loves listening to the same song over and over again, so this is great, but also not that exciting.
