Mask Wight
Long ago, two immensely powerful demonic beings created an allegiance. Whether out of love, convenience, or other, they devised a plan to truly exterminate any and all rivals, picking a list of those they wished to see wiped from existence. Working together, they conceived of a recipe for the perfect assassin.
Stealing the bodies of death knights from under the nose of a powerful arch-lich, sacrificing thousands of condemned souls and sealing their essence into ivory masks, and then hammering the masks onto each body, and leaving the armored husks sitting at the bottom of the memory-draining Styx for 600 years. After this time, each body rose and marched out onto the planes to carry out the most intense campaign of destruction through history. While not all have survived, and each death is a permanent loss to the ancient plans, many mask wights have been extremely cautious, running their campaigns from behind the scenes and out of sight, readying centuries of plans to bring about their final victory.
Secretly however, each of the two created a mask wight for the other, keeping it locked away as a final safeguard in case the other should consider betrayal.

The identity of which demon lords created the mask wights remains unknown, but they make their cautious plans in the background of the Abyss. While a few target Empyreal Lords or Infernal Dukes, most are assigned to other Demon Lords. Mask wights are known to be hunting Abraxas, Kostchtchie, and Shax, while one was apparently hunting Deskari but failed to successfully use its wail of the forgotten to ensure his complete elimination. Others certainly exist, but have remained under the radar, or more worryingly were successful and no one even remembers the being they destroyed.

The original mask wights were stolen from the Lich King by a pair of powerful demons. These demons are independent of the Diabolist, at least it is assumed, as she destroyed a mask wight hunting for her destruction some time ago. Others are presumed to be targeting other Icons, as well as other unique and powerful demons, remaining hidden among the citizens of the Dragon Empire or the demons of the Abyss with magical disguises.
