Grrr my internet is acting weird which means I can’t attend IOP and according to insurance, you have to attend at least 2 of the 3 hours of program otherwise you have to pay out of pocket. I don’t want to use my cell data for the whole 3 hours so I think I might just have to skip it unless it starts working in the next 40 min. Oh well, iop on wednesdays is super self directed anyway, so I’ll just do what I would be doing in iop.
So I had therapy with my iop therapist today. Apparently according to “protocol” she should’ve stepped me up bc of what happened last week (self harm requiring stitches) but she was like nah I know that wouldn’t be helpful for her, that’s not what she’s focusing on in her treatment right now so I’m not gonna step her up (and she got approval from her supervisor). She asked me what I thought about moving into a harm reduction model of care for my self harm and ED. I had actually brought up harm reduction as an idea when I went to res, but they were like I don’t think we’re there yet bc they had just met me which I guess makes sense so I dropped it. But I’m glad that my program therapist is thinking about it bc I think it’s a good idea to at least try it. And we didn’t talk about it in terms of the ED, but basically with the self harm, our aim is going to be working on me not getting to the point of needing stitches rather than working on not cutting at all.
Honestly I felt such a sense of relief at the idea of going “ok I will probably cut again. What can we do to make sure it’s less harmful each time?” For example with last week, maybe I still would’ve self harmed but been able to keep it superficial. Idk it’s interesting. It’s the first time a therapist has ever brought it up with me but I think it makes a lot of sense looking at my history.
