This is so specific and every day my asks become more niche, but do you have anymore Patrick thoughts?
How would he and Jolene interact if they were able to stay in touch? Their dynamic in any of the aus (if they have one)? How does he get alone with the others (Geraldine, Roxanne, Marnie, Robbie the rest of the dnd group)
Also do you have someone in mind to play him? Idk why but Patrick is haunting me. The thoughts don’t have to be in depth but I just enjoy a sibling dynamic.
By all means, I love niche asks!
Edit: I am so sorry. I typed a long answer - his version of canon, his parts in each of the aus, all his relationships, potential casting - over the last few hours and just as I went to add tags, the whole thing crashed and didn't save more than two sentences (so much for fucking autosave). I cannot type that all out again. I'm gonna cry.
I'm sure I'll end up saying everything I want in reblogs anyway, but for now I'm just doing short answers. How much sense they make out of context is unclear but I don't have any other option :/
Patrick's always had a huge soft spot for Jolene, I think he would love being able to communicate more readily/regualrly with her through phones. They both would. But I do have a feeling Patrick is a little more sentimental about it while Jolene just sends the dumbest memes. Has definitely spammed him with gifs a couple times.
The only change to a modern au is the fact they can communicate. He'd still be away and they wouldn't see each other in person any more than normal because they are both away or busy a lot of the time. But he does make it back for her funeral in this case, as he can actually hear about it with enough time to travel over. He definitely has a go at Geraldine at said funeral, for everything she's done recently, and hopes karma pays her her dues.
Hiatus au does see them interacting a little more as while on the hiatus Jolene isn't doing anything, so when he shows up at Susan's for a surprise visit, she can actually go over and see him before he leaves again. Roxanne and Marnie go with her, but schedule their own things to do so they aren't in the way of too much family bonding. And also avoid having to explain why they are so clingy, as far as the Knollys are concerned only Rolene are together. He's a bit wary of Geraldine when the group reforms, definitely gives the protective brother glare at her in passing a couple times.
He and Susan never really learn of her drinking. She's her normal happy self, relatively sober, for most of the visits.
In the Scarred/Eye for an eye/unnamed au, it is the same case as canon. He comes home randomly and is informed his sister was in a crash a few months ago, but rather than dead he can actually go and see her. Susan hasn't been able to go as much or as long as she likes because of Clifford, so he is more than happy to partially go on her behalf and make sure Jolene is okay. He stays with them for a while, helping however he can.
Patrick becomes a rock for Jolene. His efforts go a long way in helping her regain her mobility and independence, while reaffirming the fact it's okay for her to need help and not be the strong one all the time. He bonds a lot with Roxanne, who he still believes is Jolene's girlfriend. Marnie isn't thrilled at a stranger basically living with them but accepts it without complaint, realising she can't mum friend and care for the others like she used to. Robbie is also staying with them during this time, assuring Patrick that Marnie will warm up to him with time. Patrick for his part doesn't mind, he feels bad for her and knows enough about her to know it's anxiety.
He also knows ASL canonically and would spend some time trying to help teach/communicate with Marnie. Which has mixed results to say the least.
Jolene!Holloway wouldn't differ from canon. He's too late to see her one last time. But I'm sure she watches him from afar, leaving treats for his dogs.
In the normal/canon timeline, he never really meets any of them, thus has no opinion. He mostly just knows whatever his mother tells him, so only really knows the girls and maybe Robbie, but it's not enough to form an opinion. He was long out of the house when these friendships started remember and isn't back often enough to catch visits with Jolene, let alone her found family.
In the different aus that allow for more contact, he bonds a lot with Geraldine as people who like to ragebait Jolene. He puts a lot of effort into getting to know Roxanne, who he thinks of as a sister-in-law in all but name, and is just as happy to fill out the older sibling role she lost in Beatrix. He's the least close with Marnie, they just don't have much overlap in anything - he still respects her and thinks she is a sensible friend choice for his sister. Someone has to be her impulse control. he also knows Marnie as the one Jolene was weirdly emotional about after the deer crash, so he's a little weird around her.
Out of the DND group, he is definitely the closest to Spencer, I can see them being generally great friends. He is friendly and warm with everyone else but these are two peas in a pod that are going to go hiking together. There's nothing really notable in these dynamics, no matter the universe Patrick is never really meeting with them regularly. It's one off or circumstantial.
Casting... I am not entirely settled on. Patrick doesn't appear in the draft script so he never needed to be cast the same way Susan did -Susan is played by Jaime Lyn Beatty for reference between her Joan appearances; who is also in heels because Jolene must be tiny.
Whoever it is needs to have a great dynamic with Angela. I think Curt would be a good fit but I'm really keen on Patrick being head and shoulders above Jolene, which is my only catch for casting him. While he hasn't worked with Angela, I think Iván's comedy style would blend really nicely, though again unsure of how tall he is. Joey is equally a good fit, is tall and isn't already playing someone in the extended friend/DND group, so added bonus. I think Will could also pull him off.
Completely unintentionally but by nature of accidentally using the same name, my mind always goes to Patrick McDonald. Not a StarKid but he does musicals, works great with Angela (and Mariah and Jon) and very tall, so I'm throwing it out there. Equally random choice: Tommy Bowe.
