About this character in 219

We're introduced to three unnamed characters in this chapter. Initially I was a little disappointed because I wanted one of the characters to be someone we've already met before.

I believe he is actually a bizarre doll of a character we met a while back, Patrick Phelps:

Patrick Phelps was a character who first appeared in Book of Murder. He was one of the guests and was overlooked by the others at the party, as characters mentioned that he didn't have a presence due to his timid nature. Unfortunately, he was a victim of Snake's black mamba, which bit and poisoned him. His last moments alive were asking Sebastian for help, who ignored him, as he slowly died from poisoning.

Points against this:

1. The design isn't 1-1.

Counterpoint: Yana's style has changed over the years and designs from earlier arcs have changed along with them. BoM was released back in 2009, over 15 years ago.

2. His personality is different.

Counterpoint: Yes, it is. However, we're shown that bizarre dolls memories can be manipulated. This ties in with another theory of mine I haven't mentioned previously. While Phelp's body is the same, I believe his memories were altered to give him the confident persona we see in chapter 219. This also makes him stand out less in that a lot of people would overlook the possibility of him being a bizarre doll, since the original Phelps was meek and timid.

3. Yana forgot about Phelps.

This one I don't have a counterpoint for. Since there are plenty of one off characters that aren't brought up again outside of their arcs.

Please note I am not a skilled theorist nor am I willing to argue with others that it isn't true. It was just something I observed that I figured people might overlook (I saw a post comparing the 'new?' character to Edward which made me look more and go "wait... this guy is familiar but not so much Edward".) Since I'm one of the few people that like (or even remember) Mr. Phelps, I thought this was worth posting.

Part of him would prefer to stay home and just… well… play house… but realistically, he’ll probably end up in a position within his father’s company. Even if he’s a little too weak-willed to fully take things over, he’s still expected to stay in the business. As long as it’s not a job that will drain him or force him into unhealthily uncomfortable situations, he’ll do alright. The bonus is that not being at the helm of the company means shorter hours, at least by a little, so he can spend a bit more time at home with you.

Is very much not a morning person. Much as he tries not to grumble about having to get out of bed, he can’t fight it too much; after all, he goes to bed at a reasonable hour, so there’s no reason he should be clinging to his pillow, is there? He’s just… so sleepy! He likes the idea of mornings ― actual mornings are another story. Any day he has no plans and gets to sleep in, cuddling with you, is a good day. Other days… he can be woken up more easily with a copious amount of kisses, if you’re willing to be patient.

After work, he likes to play games with you. Regardless of the fact that it’s just the two of you, it’s still a fun way to spend the night! Card games are just fine, especially because many of them only need two people to be played. Blackjack and war are two he enjoys, even though he may not be very good and they often rely on luck more than skill. However, when it comes to parlor games, he’s an absolute master at playing The Minister’s Cat. It’s like he’s memorized the whole dictionary and has a word for every letter of the alphabet… whether he beats you at this one is up to whether you’re good with words as well!

Does he have a cook? Yes, he does. Does that stop him from trying to make your favorite meal, complete with dessert and drinks, when a special occasion like your birthday or an anniversary calls for it? No, no, it does not. To his credit, he does try quite hard; he’s just not a natural cook. The effort makes up for it.

Provided you don’t object, he often has a flower or two for you at least once a week when he comes home. He likes to walk back to the manor, and passes several people selling flowers on the streets and at least one florist on the way. Typically he buys from the ones selling on the streets, so that he can help them out. It gets to the point that the people he buys from most often know him by name and expect him on a certain day of the week like clockwork.

(… This might be how he meets your first child. He desperately wants to adopt and give a child in need a loving home! He’s probably just going to ask you to come with him one day, so you can go over and ask the little one if they want to come home with the two of you. He’s a little too shy to make such a bold move himself!)

Honestly? He’d be perfectly fine with a small army of children that you and he adopt. Five or more, if you can keep up with them all. Why not?? He has a lot of love to give, and giving a home to children who don’t have one is something he sees as one of the most loving gestures he could possibly give. All in all, Patrick is definitely at his happiest when he comes home from a long day at work only to be tackled by a brood of kids all shouting, “Daddy’s home! Daddy’s home!” … Well. Happiest then, except for when he’s hugging and kissing them all, and spending time with the children and you as a family. Despite everything, he’s a rather simple man at his core, with just two things driving him: the desire to be loved, and the desire to love.

Sleepy snuggles with you and the children in front of the fireplace. He falls asleep complete, content, and fulfilled in his life. He was born to live inside moments like that.

This is just a thought, but remember Mr Phelps from the mansion murders arc (the one killed by the snake)? He was the owner of the Blue Star Line company, the one that created the Campania. Do you think Phelps was an Aurora Society Member, or did the society just purchase the company and commandeer the boat?

Mr. Phelps' role

He wasn't the owner of Blue Star Line but a board member. Please see this post from December 2017 (which has links to three older posts) and this post from October 2018.

I used to think our earl and Sebastian accidentally caused harm to real Ciel's and Undertaker's efforts, but I actually have a new theory:

At the end of the circus arc, Sebastian has Baldo cart the bodies of Jumbo, Beast, Dagger, Wendy, and Peter to the back gate, where Undertaker will presumably pick them up for disposal. The murders arc happens as a direct result of the queen not being pleased with our earl's report about the circus assignment. Phelps is an unintended casualty, but since he died at the manor, his body was probably also set aside for Undertaker to collect.

It's possible that one of two things happened:

Either Undertaker turns Phelps into a bizarre doll about as reliable as Agares (given the time period) and sends him back to the Blue Star Line in order for Undertaker to gain some control over the shipping company.

Or Undertaker doesn't reanimate Phelps (technique might not be strong enough yet), but he sees the empty seat in the board of directors as an opportunity to infiltrate the board himself and gain some control over it. He would then show up to the board meetings looking a lot like his image as the Weston headmaster.

Anyway, Patrick Phelps was on the board and in the trading division. His death, if Blue Star Line suffered from the loss, would have been a boon to Lau's shipping business.
