F/A18F 'VFA-103' by Rob Schleiffert Via Flickr: Payerne, 2 September 2004. The Super Hornet was one of the candidates for the F-5E replacement. Just like the Eurofighter, Gripen and Rafale it was demonstrated in 2004 at the Payerne airshow. How nice to send an F/A-18F with squadron markings: VF-103 'Jolly Rogers'. The markings must have been fake however. In September VF-103 was still at sea with USS John F. Kennedy and flying F-14 Tomcats! The squadron only started its transition to Super Hornets in December. This 166613 / AA-104. Another one (166614 / AA-105) was on static but no decent photos were possible.
