Bakushin who views herself as The Best Class Representative Ever and if she can't live up to that then she views herself as worthless

Bakushin who must be the Most Helpful Uma Ever or else she is Undeserving. She MUST help others or else she will feel like she cannot be there

Bakushin, who when she cannot live up to her standards, doesn't even feel she deserves her name (no seriously she panicked about losing one (1) race and said smth like "if i lose will i need to be sakura O?!! i cant be bakushin?!!!!"

Things mentally "Wrong"™️ with the current main batfamily members

Bruce - Autism, OSDD-1B, BPD, NPD, AVPD, C-PTSD, MDD, and OCD. Suffers from heavy suicidal ideation, self-harms, and has addictions to things too, but he's very good at hiding his issues.

Dick - Autism, ADHD, BPD, PTSD, MDD. Also HPD let's be honest here. He's very prone to allowing people to manipulate him, he NEEDS the attention.

Jason - Autism, NPD with BPD traits, C-PTSD. Self-harmed as a child (cuts), and still does as an adult (burns).

Tim - Autism, ADHD, BPD and HPD. He's practically the HPD poster boy guys come on. Girls that get it, get it. Girls that don't, don't.

Cass - Autism, AVPD with heavy ASPD traits.

Steph - ADHD, autism and HPD.

Damian - He's literally like 10-15 in my version of things so he can't actually be diagnosed with personality disorders yet. But he's autistic as FUCK. When he grows up he probably has AVPD and NPD though.

Duke - AVPD probably. Also autism obviously.

Alfred - Autism. He's an autism dad quite literally. I love him.

The back and forth between Vanessa and Evelyn Poole at the ball is basically tantamount to watching two apex warriors square off and I LIVE FOR THAT SHIT.

It gives me warm fuzzies watching the development of Evelyn’s complexity and depth as an antagonist. Like, she’s kinda tropey in how she uses her seductive charm on Malcolm, but

Penny Dreadful has never shied away from being tropey, and

it’s a show that has used its tropiness as a foundation for character building.

Evelyn isn’t just a spooky, sexy witch-lady in service to some higher dark master. She feels like a genuine threat (who is also fun to watch) because of the way she is presented--as a smart, ambitious person capable of utilizing what she knows to turn the situation to her favor. She’s not afraid of leveling the playing field for her own gains before you’re even aware that you’re playing a game with her.

Also, she’s turned Malcolm into a lovesick, useless dope and I’m kind of okay with that, because in any other show of this kind, we all know it’d be Vanessa getting that treatment while Malcolm busily punched things until everything was back to normal.

No, seriously. Vanessa and Joan are basically Victorian!AU Morrigan and Flemeth, only totally way more functional in that they actually love each other and stuff.

Also, now I’m totally thinking about who would be who in a Penny Dreadful/Dragon Age crossover because, well, of course I am.

Vanessa is Morrigan, obviously (although I think a case could also be made for Leliana).

Sembene would be Sten.

Dorian is basically Zevran, except pale and English.

Ethan is either the Warden who gets recruited by Duncan or Nathaniel Howe.

That leaves Victor, Brona, Malcolm, and Caliban/John, and also the leader of the Night-comers whose name I keep forgetting.

I think something we've forgotten about Caliban/John is...he's defective. We're lucky he didn't turn out as a bumbling monster like some movie adaptations. There may actually be something wrong with his brain in comparison to his siblings...

So perhaps he's actually making strides by leaps and bounds, albeit a lot more slowly than Proteus and Lily. He's got language comprehension down, but perhaps finer social cues will always be a mystery to him. And last season he was like 5 lol!

I’m actually kind of curious to know exactly how many parts Caliban is made of (and if John Clare/Clair is what he has decided to name himself permanently or what). I need to rewatch season one in case I’m forgetting whether or not they already talked about that.

I think what has helped him out, too, that he is actually interacting with the world around him. Seems to me there was a prolonged period where he just spent all his time getting his information from books--which is great, but can only do so much. He spent a lot of time isolated from people (understandably) out of fear and anger. His time in the Grand Guignol put him in touch with other people more regularly and let him experience what the books couldn’t--a constantly shifting atmosphere of different personalities and ideas.

There’s a bunch more I want to say but my brain is all muddled and I’m worried I’ll just end up repeating myself for several paragraphs. XD

I keep thinking about their convo too, and how it totally contradicts things John has said in the past lol! Maybe he's growing up?

It’s entirely possible that he’s maturing both as a man and as a character--and if so, thank holy god and praise be to all because it means I can spend less time being whiny about him and more time having heart-eyes over Ethan or something.

To be honest, though, Caliban did have reasons to be as angry and upset as he was through season one. Victor basically abandoned his ass--albeit out of the sudden shock and fear that comes with successfully reanimating someone for the first time--and he’s had to deal with people being judgmental assholes. He had to learn about the world on his own based on what he could take in, like anyone else growing up. It makes sense that some of his views and ways of dealing with things would be inappropriate or extreme.

He seems to be reaching a stabler place, emotionally, but time will tell. There’s still a chance things might go tits up and he reverts to a simpler feel-act sort of behavior if he’s pushed.
