The last of some Black Fiction, and a lot of YA. Notably THE badass #BenildeLittle. Acting Out is always good with a glass of wine. 😌 and I plan to own every book #PearlCleage has ever written. I’m getting there lol. Important, if random: I’ll be starting a Caribbean fiction section when I get settled. Not pictured is one of my FAVE YA BOOKS EVER, Clap When You Land by Elizabeth Acevedo. @thisbrownegirlreads, has opened my eyes to new textures in Blackness that I knew about but didn’t perceive well. Watching the group devour Caribbean fiction there are so many authors I have swallowed into the umbrella of “Black Fiction”. In this stack, there is #MaikaMouliteAndMaritzaMoultie, Haitian Americans. The rest of these are ode to my childhood mostly. I like to re/read them and practice writing digestibly. Mildred Taylor and Walter Sean Myers were some of the first people I tried to write like growing up. Also took hella heat from my entire family for reading all of the Laura Ingalls Wilder books. Idk WHY I loved them. 😬😳🤷🏾♀️🤣🤣🤣 Turns out, I just like the country. Lol. Judy Blume, Beverly Clearly were also loved. But THE GIVER. By Lois Lowry. Read it til the wheels fell off. 😆🙃☺️ #LetsGrow #YA #YALovers #YABookstagram #YABooks #YAbookclub #YABookStack #ReadTheWorld #LauraIngallsWilder #YABookstagrammer #ThisBrowneGirlReads #YoungAdultBooks #YoungAdultFiction #YoungAdults (at Atlanta, Georgia) https://www.instagram.com/p/CP9I4eILunR/?utm_medium=tumblr
So. Much. Black. Fiction. #AmReading #LoveBooks #EricJeromeDickey #PearlCleage #Sapphire #BerniceLMcFadden #TimothyBMcCann #Zane #RosslynCarrington #RitaCoburnWhack #WahidaClark #ELynnHarris #SupportBlackWriters #ThisBrowneGirlReads #BookStack #BookStackChallenge I will never stop buying in this genre. I added American Marriage and a few more over the last years that aren’t pictured. Probably hiding or they’ve been re-homed. These are the books that my friends and fam borrow the most! ♥️✊🏾☺️ #ReadingIsFun #MovingIsNot (at Atlanta, Georgia) https://www.instagram.com/p/CP7O4HLrnww/?utm_medium=tumblr
Pearl Cleage! My Pearl & Jade Pothos. I love how easy #pothos are to care for and I can wait until she's trailing down my bookshelf at my new apartment. ☺️ #pearlcleage #plantsplantsplants #plantparenthood #pearlnjadepothos (at Atlanta, Georgia) https://www.instagram.com/p/CBiqStAjTLH/?igshid=ddthrvg6257r
I have read this book too many times to count. I’ve read every book #PearlCleage has ever written at least 3 times. Y’all, I don’t be speaking in metaphors or similes. Even my poetry is literal. If I say “the sky was green” - Im not tryna tell you money was falling from the sky (although it is 👅) on MAMAS, the sky was literally green. 🤷🏾♀️ But Pearl writes for the Garveyite in me. Her ideas of community and our responsibility to each other is so similar to my own that it’s a wonder. She writes the stories my soul must have. 🙏🏾 But also, I’ve been talking more about #WomenWhoRunWithTheWoleves (a sacred text) and as I’m simultaneously reading #BabylonSisters again, I’m making all kinds of connections to Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estes’ work and the work of black women’s fiction. The characters Zora wrote. The characters Toni wrote. The characters Pearl writes. #itMe || I have been calling myself a “Pearl Cleage character” for the last 15 years. These women are the women Estes is writing about. This woman exists in her freedom and audacity because her soul knows she MUST exist or she won’t survive this life. Pearl Cleage characters are this woman. They want deep love, the ability to be safe (so get. Carve out spaces where they will absolutely be safe), they so the work their souls MUST have (they are #womanists) and all they wanna do is be free. <- Even when their work is resistance work, it’s dreamed up with the intention to be able to be, raise, live in community with, and love free women. 🙌🏾 Again... it’s me! || All of these stories and these books and this art and this dreaming has brought me to the place of sharing the #DreamYourselfFree workshop. I want black women to be able to all be the Pearl Cleage characters we were born to be. A few more days of this early bird pricing exists.
