Pearl Mermaid Empress —Aesthetic
Pearl Merfolk
Water Type: Saltwater & Freshwater.
Region: All over the world, from the shallows to the deep and the tropics to the Arctic. Clams and mussels can be in fresh or saltwater, but oysters are only in salt or brackish habitats.
Bonded Animal(s): Species of Bivalves (Oysters, Mussels, Clams, Scallops, etc.)
Description: Pearl Merfolk are technically bonded to bivalves, but rather than have the appearance and personalities of the animal, these merpeople are only bonded to them due to their ability to detect the pearls that grew inside these shelled-creatures. Pearl Merfolk tails can come in a variety of colors, just like all the pearls they collect. These mythical beings pride themselves of decoring their bodies with the pearls they harvest.
Monarchy: Since pearls can be found globally, Pearl Merpeople have an Empress Mermaid known as the Mother of Pearls. She has a white, glossy, and nearly translucent fin. Due to this, there's not an inch of her that isn't covered in pearls to hide her almost transparent tail. The Empress' job is to manage the smaller kingdoms under her, which house the pearl farms providing income for her people. Pearls are these merfolk's only tradable resource to other Merpeople Clans as they're incapable of hunting or forging for themselves.
Round 1, Match 102 — Decora vs. Pearlcore
Decora (デコラ, short for "decoration style") is a Japanese street fashion style that originated in the Harajuku district of Tokyo in the late 1990s. It is the purest expression of maximalist, anti-fashion dress within Harajuku Fashion. The style is characterized by the principle of excessive, dense layering of accessories that completely obscure the base clothing. This style can be combined with pretty much any clothing but the most popular base fashions are Fairy Kei. The outfits combine casual clothes with many layers in the form of multiple hair clips, bracelets, tulle skirts, stockings, leg warmers, belts, bags, plushies, gloves, necklaces and pins. Face stickers and band aids are very common to be worn with colorful makeup that matches the clothing. Wigs of unnatural colors may be worn. Clothing may have many prints, such as colorful prints, heart prints, and many other patterns. Decora also focuses on DIY, where wearers create their own unique and decorative accessories.
vs.
Pearlcore is a fashion, beauty, and decor trend that surged in popularity in the early 2020s, centered on the prominent use of pearls. The aesthetic is defined by its modernization of the classic pearl, moving it away from its traditionally formal, preppy, or "grandmotherly" associations and recontextualizing it in more contemporary, eclectic, and often gender-neutral styles. The trend was heavily documented on Pinterest, which noted a significant increase in searches for pearl-themed items in 2022. Pearlcore is characterized by the incorporation of pearls in all forms, from classic jewelry to iridescent accents on clothing, nail art, and home decor. In fashion, the trend manifests in both jewelry and clothing embellishments. Pearl necklaces are the most iconic item, worn either as a classic single strand or, in a more contemporary styling, layered with gold or silver chains. The trend also revived interest in other forms of pearl jewelry, such as the three-row pearl choker popularized by Vivienne Westwood. Beyond jewelry, pearls are used as decorative details on clothing, such as pearl-encrusted berets, buttons on cardigans, or straps on heels. The aesthetic also embraces asymmetrical baroque pearls in avant-garde designs.

The sea does not mark time the way we do.
Mermay fades, but her songs linger;
in shell-whispers, moonlit waves, and every blue dream we breathe💙
For those who truly listen, mermaids are forever. 🌊🫧
