Posted @withregram • @savebristolbay We welcomed a lot of new followers in to our community last week, so we wanted to take a minute for some introductions. . Hi, hello 👋🏻 Welcome to the Save Bristol Bay campaign. We are a community of anglers, hunters, commercial fishermen, Alaska Native people, bear viewers, chefs, and salmon supporters who want to ensure Southwest Alaska continues to thrive as the largest Sockeye salmon fishery on the planet. . Right now, the Bristol Bay region is threatened by a Canadian mining company who wants to build a massive copper and gold, open-pit mine in the headwaters of the fishery. . Not only would they have to dig a massive pit, the Pebble plan calls for over 100 miles of roads built, an ice breaking ferry across Iliamna Lake, a deep water port in Kamishak Bay, and a 188-mile natural gas pipeline across Cook Inlet. . Right now, Pebble is in the final stages of permitting by the Army Corps of Engineers for their most important federal permit. We are waiting for the Corps to release a Final Environmental Impact Statement in the next 2-6 weeks. . Staying connected with us is the best way to get campaign updates and to be ready to take action for Bristol Bay. . It’s up to us to ensure that this foreign mining company doesn’t wipe out a $1.5 billion fishing industry, 14,000 American jobs, and a region rich in culture and fishing traditions. 💪🏽🐟📢 . 📸:@bryangregsonphotography #savebristolbay #nopebblemine #bristolbay #pebblemine #thealaskalife #alaska #redgold #ihuntifishiopposepebble #alaskaflyout #fishalaska (at Bristol Bay, Alaska) https://www.instagram.com/p/CAV70fSDZPs/?igshid=pmrsfrh4s3mr
