Hey, question, how much do you know about GSD bloodlines and pedigrees? Border-collie thought you might be able to offer me some insight
I've been reading workingline GSD pedigrees longer than I've been on Tumblr and I'm a certified Tumblr Ancient (insert the classic post of the old lady in the pool). I'm acknowledged as competent by breeders in my breed. But reading a pedigree takes time and effort if you want a nuanced read of how drives, aggression, and nerve are predicted to manifest. There's no such thing as a quick read unless the pedigree is really fucking awful. Unfortunately, it's typically a waste of my time because friends ignore my assessment and buy the puppy anyway. Then they come back and bitterly complain about the traits I told them to expect. 🙃
The breeder should be able to provide a thorough explanation of why they chose to pair the dogs together. I have plenty of posts on my blog explaining what to look for in a mating description. Rushing into a puppy purchase is not a solid plan. Take the time to investigate and ask the breeder questions. Move on if the breeder doesn't have time for you. The relationship isn't going to improve after they have your money.
