People keep deleting their good original posts on Reddit. It happens on Tumblr, too, but way less often, and it's way less devastating when it does, bc Tumblr preserves any reblogs of the original post even if the post itself was deleted, while on Reddit, even crossposts to other subs become links to empty posts if the original post gets deleted.
So I've been looking through my old Reddit comments occasionally, and I keep running into ones where I'm like "oh this one was under an interesting post", and when I try to open the post to re-read it, I find it deleted. And I was like "why do people keep doing this? :(" for MONTHS. Then I asked a reasonably popular question in a very popular sub, got over 1k comments, and now I Understand. My notifications became entirely, completely useless. The only thing keeping me from deleting this post too is that maybe someone with that same question looks for answers on the internet before asking it themself like an idiot and finds the helpful people in my comments.
