Today in 2000, we lost the great Pee Wee King at age 86. Born Julius Frank Kuczynski in Abrams, Wisconsin. Pee Wee co-wrote the classic "The Tennessee Waltz". He is listed as a co-writer to two other classics, "You Belong To Me" and "Slow Poke". However, they were actually written by Chilton Price, but she gave both King and Redd Stewart co-writing credits on each song because she thought they would get more exposure with their names listed. His recording of "Slow Poke", featuring Redd Stewart on vocals, sold well over a million copies and spent 15 weeks at #1 on Billboard's country charts in late 1951/early 1952, while topping their pop charts for 3 weeks. In Cashbox, the numbers were the same.
