Book Review: Toph's Metalbending Academy

Reccomend: 8/10

Yes it expands the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender in a satisfying way. It feels like a happy ending for our characters, even though it's not the end!

Plot: 8/10

Makes sense, flows well, twists feel good, characters feel consistent.

Creativity: 6/10

Not as creative as the plots of the show or previous comics but still very interesting and different than a lot of stuff out there. That unique A:tla spin

Art: 9/10

Really good but seemed different than previous comics? Like maybe they had less time to work on it or something.

I love Toph's metalbending students so much. The adorably precocious, cocky young girl Penga. The large and burly but insecure and pessimistic Ho Tun. The Dark One. All excellent additions, no notes.

Ho Tun, The Dark One and Penga are the Eight of Pentacles. I chose them for tjis card because it means apprenticeship, repetitive tasks, skill development and mastery.

If you’ve read The Promise you know how hard it was for The Lily livers, I mean, students to master their craft and the struggle they had with that one rival academy! I have not yet read The Metalbending Academy stand alone but of course they’re gonna be there doing student things too!

There is a criminal lack of fics about Toph and Penga bonding. That child is the closest thing to a little sister Toph has.
