Daily Fungi Fact 127: Mycophenolic acid is an immunosuppressant(weakens immune system) used to help stop the body from rejecting an organ after an organ transplant, it can also be used to treat autoimmune(immune system is paranoid and attacks the body) conditions such as Crohn's disease. Mycophenolic acid is made from mycophenolate, which is obtained from molds in the Penicillium genus.
