"Wildflower"
Chapter 4: Eucalyptus
Protection
Even though you and Corpse mostly communicated through messages and phone calls, unfortunately for you without video calls, you felt like the both of you had become very close. That was of course only your point of view but you strongly believed in that. He was not that open in the beginning and most importantly didn’t reply to you so frequently, now you felt like you were spending your whole day with him. He was everywhere, in your headphones when you talked on your way to college, in your phone when you texted throughout the day, in your head when you were thinking about him every second. Just everywhere but not beside you and you hated it.
The day was like every other, you were in college since morning, texting Corpse, telling him how much you wanted to go home and rest, how much you missed your bed and how tired you were. That was a rather hard period for you and you hardly slept at night, he was aware of that. He most definitely was however you didn’t expect him to be that concerned.
“should i pick you up???” Reading his message you had to blink at least twice to ensure yourself that your own eyes weren’t playing tricks on you. Did he really suggest coming to your school to fetch you? You had been complaining to him all day yet you didn’t expect that to happen. Your brain just couldn’t wrap around that idea. He just, himself, came up with this solution. Still, what were you waiting for? Why hadn’t you replied to him already? You couldn’t waste that opportunity.
“pretty please” You quickly typed your reply, biting on your bottom lip almost too hard. You were just too excited, feeling like that was the best thing that happened to you recently. Suddenly you didn’t feel tired, you were too excatic for that.
After all of your classes were done you were waiting right in the parking lot, impatiently waiting for your friend to arrive. You didn’t even know what his car looked like so you didn’t know what to expect, as a result you were looking at every car entering the parking until a black suv pulled over right next to you. You saw him sitting on the driver seat so you instantly hopped inside the car closing the door behind you.
“Hello.” His heavenly deep voice greeted you and you sent a huge smile his way, fastening the seat belt.
“It’s so good to see you, i missed this.” You admitted sincerely, feeling like the smile will rip your face apart every second. You felt a whole lot better with him by your side, the tiredness long forgotten.
“Should we order some take out? I’m hungry and don’t feel like cooking anything.” He said throwing a slight glance your way. Although that was your third meeting in person, you felt like you knew him so well, your cheeks turning light pink from his stare. It wasn’t normal to blush, you didn’t want to give yourself away that fast so you looked through the window for him not to notice your warm face.
“Sure. It would be best to grab some drive-through, right?” He silently nodded at your question and began driving somewhere, probably already having something in mind. You were okay with everything so you didn’t complain. Corpse played some music clearly vibing to it, making you smile yet again. After a few minutes you were at another parking lot and almost ready to place your order. You said yours first and waited for Corpse to choose something for himself.
“For me it would be large veggie burger, fries, also large, and coke”
After his words there was silence at the other side and you furrowed your brows, not understanding what was happening. The person taking your answer just went silent.
“Wait- “ Finally you heard the voice of the girl though it was a little shaky. “Oh my God. Are you Corpse Husband? You have to be! I would recognize your voice everywhere!”
The girl was almost screaming, she sounded over excited and you were just confused. What the hell was happening? What was she talking about? And what did she call your friend, again?
When you finally looked his way you realized something was off. He looked just like that day you saw him for the first time. He looked extremely panicked and anxious, his breathing got a lot faster and you could clearly hear it. You were afraid he was going to have a real attack and right now was not the right time for that. You didn’t want to panic, you had to do something, anything to help him.
You cleared your throat, getting rid of the dryness.
“Large veggie burger, large fries and a coke. That’s it, thank you very much.” You registered your voice was shaking the moment it left your throat, you were just so worried for your friend. You didn’t know what was happening but you desperately wanted to help. Your word seemed to be working as the girl repeated your order, making sure it was correct.
“Let me take the wheel, let’s exchange the seats.” You said, closing the window so the girl was no longer able to hear you. You were sure he was not able to drive and you couldn’t stay in that place. You got out of the car and slowly, not to scare him any more, changed the seats with him. He was moving like in some sort of a trance. Didn’t talk, didn’t look at you, he was just shaking and breathing really rapidly. You noticed he put on his hoodie and sat facing the window. Your hands clutched at the steering wheel as you drived closer to the next window where you could pay for your order. When you were next to the one where you picked up the food you saw that one of the workers looked inside of the car, clearly interested in the man that was sitting next to you. That must have been her, the one that scared him like hell. You threw her an angry glance and drove away instantly after picking up your order, stopping at the very corner of the parking.
The silence in the car was heavy and not really pleasant. You wanted to cheer him up some way, but you were overwhelmed yourself. It all happened so fast that you still didn’t get it. You didn’t want to ask questions even though you were really curious, you just wanted him to feel better.
“Corpse.” You started with your still unsteady voice, faceing his way. But before you had a chance to do anything else, he turned around and threw his hands at you, embracing you strongly. Your face was right at his shoulder and being this close, touching him, you could feel his body trembling, hear his frantic heartbeat.
And you knew the words were not needed. He held you close and you felt him relaxing against your body. He longed your comfort in his own way. And you were ready to give it all to him.
You were ready to give him the world.
