As a "go big or go home" mentality kinda gal, mastering the virtue of patience and making small shuffles towards the end goal has been difficult. However through trial and error, unfinished projects and put-on-pause dreams, I have come to accept that the process of change takes time. (Sidenote: Just because I accept it doesn't mean I have mastered it). Sustainable results take even longer so you can kiss goodbye the perks of instant gratification.
Think of something BIG that you are hoping to accomplish. This could be along the lines of landing your dream job, buying your dream house or perhaps quitting a bad habit of yours. But the term "BIG" is relative to the beholder so let's keep the brainstorming going for a bit. How about getting accepted into your top school of choice, having the courage to quit and change your 9-5 job or perhaps mastering a new hobby? How about becoming rich or famous? Whatever floats your boat.
These are all great goals that sound empowering but will never be achieved without the grunt work that comes with the vision. You may come across seemingly brilliant people who have managed to achieve these things that you aspire to have. You then think to yourself: wow, that person is smart, talented, motivated and so forth. Yes, I will admit that there are those handful of lucky individuals who are just born equipt with the tools needed to sail through life. However in reality, most of these amazing people have seen results because of their persaverence, hard work and continual effort. Even pro atheletes are often perceived as magically talented individuals when in reality, they are training everyday and multiple times a day at that. Super models; it ain't just a pretty face...watch an episode of America's Top Model to get a better understanding of this.
Earlier on, I mentioned that there was no room for instant gratificaiton in this equation for BIG results. Unless you win the 649 Lottery, this is most likely the case. In order to keep moving forward towards your goals, you must learn to put value towards the things you do to get there...not matter how small or tedious the task. Although your efforts may not be noticed or seem useless at the time, I invite you to embrace them as key contributions towards your vision.
Allow me to share this quote with you all as I feel it sums up this entry to a tee:
"The heights by great men reached and kept were not attained by sudden flight, but they, while their companions slept, were toiling upward through the night" - Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
"Put your heart, mind, intellect and soul even to your smallest acts. This is the secret of success" -Swami Sivananda
This blog is one of my baby steps. As always, thanks for reading. Have an awesome day.
