Dear God Microsoft, why would you release an update that doubles the length of boot time when that wasn’t even a feature supposed to be messed with?
Some venting behind the cut cause WHAT in the actual FUCK did they do to my machine.
WHY. I’ve just had to go into admin menus to find some way of speeding things up. I’ve got it about as close to as it was before, but it’s still slow. What in the actual free-flying fuck were you thinking, Microsoft?!
The update installed fine. Loaded a nice info screen on a browser. I closed out. F.lux offered a wider color palette and wanted to re-update. I go and reboot for that, and then my goddamn desktop disappears. It took two reboots to get it to where it would load s l o w l y. Another to make the Windows menu (and some others) show up when I push the Windows button. That worked fine subsequently and everything basically loaded fine again afterwards, too.
It took 2 more, one to fix the sound (because every time Microsoft updates, the dumbass sound system forgets it has a working headphone jack in the front and I have to talk sense into it again), and another to switch the system from selective startup (why, just why) to a normal startup.
And even then it feels like this machine’s dragging its feet at startup when it used to be a bit faster. Arghhhhh.
I think it’s about as fast as it’s going to get unless somebody has some voodoo I can sweet-talk in the update’s ear on this.
The brightside is I can’t be the only one experiencing this shit. I took a look on the MS community forums, and there are threads with complaints/fixes/”No that didn’t work wtf” responses for every recent update....which cause slower boot times and slower startups.
Par for the course. The wrangling and collective screeching over this oughta induce MS to send out a couple patches. Soon. Now would be better.
I've had so many computer problems in the past two weeks I can't even begin to describe them to you. I'm running another program that might fix it. I'm probably going to have to run a registry cleaner too. I've only lost 8 followers, so to the rest of you--stay with me?
