Random question. I shave my head bald. Usually, I change my hairstyle quite frequently, but I haven't been able to since I started shaving because there's just something holding me back. When I first started shaving it I felt like I was closer to Brigid, and the feminine earth energies. Today when I shaved it I looked in the mirror before I started and the phrase "I'm doing this for you Brigid" popped into my head. Could it be that Brigid wants me to keep my head shaved? And if so, why?
Itâs entirely possible.  Why, though?  Iâm not sure on that.  My suggestion is that you reflect upon your relationship with Brighid, and ask why she might ask such a thing of you.To my knowledge, thereâs no association of the goddess or Saint Brighid with shorn hair or baldness.  A couple of mentions in the Carmina Gadelica (a collection of Scottish folk traditions) have her as âBrigid of the twining hairâ, and mention that in Brigidâs Eve celebrations, young women appear with their hair unbound.  Of course, there are the stories of St. Brigid as a nun, thoughâ and nuns typically have their hair cut short, or shorn off, to show that they are not available for marriage and that they have renounced worldliness and luxury. In her roles as poet, healer, and metal worker, I see Brighid often as a worker of transformation.  She takes and gives, and often what she takes away is returned in what she has given back, though it is very changed.
The fact that âsomething [is] holding [you] backâ from changing your hairstyle from its current shaved state sounds like Brighid could have a task for you to do, or an idea she wants you to confront, before you proceed.Good luck.  Let us know how things proceed.Â
