Okay. I’ve had a very weird morning. I woke up 5:55AM, read The NY Times, then wasted a bunch of time trying to figure out what to post on Insta, got annoyed at myself for time spent... posted a somewhat thoughtful, vaguely whiny post about whether I’m gonna continuing doing IG after my self imposed 3 month trial period. I then walk to tailor shop I my ‘hood to get some new jeans hemmed (because I’m short and jeans are always too long, or my butt is too big.) Anyway, I’m leaving shop and I see this homeless person (his name is Ron) smoking with this book next to him. COWBOYS ARE MY WEAKNESSS by Pam Houston is one of my favorite books... I just purchased a signed first edition with this exact cover last month. This book is at least 20 years old. Ron and I have this conversation about which stories are our favorites and then he tells me he got it at the free book bin at the shelter and that the person who read it before him hated it, but he didn’t agree. He loves stories from the female point of view. I told him, I too, prefer books written by women. His favorite story was the title one, while mine is Dall. He plans to return it to the free bin after he finishes it and get a new book to read. I’m now going to start donating books to his his shelter. I asked him if I could take a picture and he agreed. Not to toot my own horn, but I have him $20 which is all I had on me and suggested he get breakfast and buy a new book. I’m only telling you this part because afterwards he said a great line, “Jenny, now you’re my weakness!” Which made me laugh out loud. Good dialogue, Ron!! Okay, I don’t know what this means in relation to my fear that if I continue on IG I’ll never write another book... but surely it means something right?! Talking to Ron has changed my entire mood.
