Peta peta trend (edit by me)
You have been blessed by the Mario Galaxy Petapeta of good fortune! Share and receive good fortune in the near future... 💰
Name: Petapeta
Debut: Super Mario Galaxy
(Shhhh! Don’t be too loud! Today’s enemy is kind of shy, they aren’t exactly that willing to show themselves. But we can find them! We just gotta listen... Listen very closely... is that the sound of... footsteps?)
HUWAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUGHHHH!
Ah! There’s Petapeta! Misnamed by some fans as the “Starbag,” Petapeta actually has never been named in English, with that name being its Japanese name, taken from the onomatopoeia of something hitting against a hard surface! Petapeta is pretty much the extraterrestrial equivalent of Moneybag and Coin Coffer, being a rare enemy in BOTH Super Mario Galaxy games!
When a Petapeta first appears, it will be invisible, but spin it, like we did there, and it will reveal itself, a bit dizzy from the knock-out. Kick it over and you’ll get SEVERAL scrumptious Star Bits! The most delicious space chunks in the galaxies!
Of course, while most people probably already will remember this enemy for its fun gimmick and the reward you get for finding it, I think we must take a moment to acknowledge how WONDERFUL this design is as well. Between the intricate patterns on the bag, the wooden sandals, and the Eyes-in-a-Black-Void Face it shares with its cousins, I almost thought this enemy was based on some sort of yokai... But it’s not, or at least, not as far as I can tell! And I even consulted our blog’s Japanese Mythology EXPERT on this issue! Mod F Boy doesn’t know either! So this creature was probably woven from whole cloth, but what nice cloth it is! So green and spindly...
Where do they get all that money from, huh?
the yokai you're thinking of is betobeto-san! an invisible spirit that would walk behind you, leaving only the sound of footsteps from wooden sandals. it was a harmless but creepy spirit, but if yous tepped to the side and said "after you, betobeto-san", he would continue his walk and leave you alone. petapeta even has a similar name, AND sandals! you have to be significantly less polite to him tho
Some more info for today’s post!
Can we play horror games all night?🥺
