The trio here features Steve on piano, Scott LaFaro on bass, and Pete LaRoca on drums – and with a lineup like that, you can easily imagine the flowing, graceful approach to the tunes on the set – a style that’s clearly influenced by the work of Bill Evans, but always willing to take things a bit farther. There’s a quality here that’s a bit like Kuhn’s early Three Waves album, but with a sound that’s less darker overall – and although the album’s a bit short, it’s a key contribution to Kuhn’s catalog – and sits nicely next to any of his better-known trio dates.” – Dusty Groove.

“Basra” by the great drummer Pete La Roca with my dude Joe Henderson on tenor and Steve Swallow on bass. This is from the Blue Note Records 80th Anniversary Series mastered by the legendary Kevin Grey. This reissue was pressed at Optimal and was done really really good. Very clean and quiet vinyl and Joe’s tenor sounds like he’s right in my living room. The only issue I have with this piece is the overall packaging. They need to step this up.
