“You’re leaving again?” Phil asked, frowning as he watched his boyfriend pack his suitcase.
“Only for a week,” Dan said, trying to reassure Phil, though it wasn’t working quite well.
“Only for a week? Dan, you do realize that I’m pregnant, right? I’m two months pregnant… and with your God damned child!” Phil yelled angrily, taking a deep breath. It was very rare when Phil raised his voice, or got angry, for that matter.
Dan blinked a few times as he looked over at Phil. “Yes, I do realize…”
“Then why are you always constantly gone? You’re supposed to be here with me. I can’t go through this pregnancy by myself… I need help. You had a part in making this happen,” Phil mumbled. “It seems as though you want to be away from me.” His eyes began to water up.
“What?” Dan immediately walked over to Phil and grabbed his hands. “No, that’s not the case. I promise… It’s just… I really need to get this gaming documentary filmed and finished for the BBC. I want to get it done now before the baby comes,” Dan whispered.
Phil took a deep breath and nodded. “I’m sorry… I shouldn’t have said that,” he mumbled.
Dan reached over and kissed Phil gently. “It’s only for a week,” he whispered.
Phil sighed. “But you’re missing the gender reveal,” he said quietly.
Dan frowned. “Can’t you reschedule it?” He asked, feeling even more awful.
“I’ve already tried… my midwife is really busy,” Phil said.
“Shit,” Dan sighed. “This is the only time I can go to Germany.”
“Dan, don’t. It’s okay, I know how important this is to you,” Phil assured.
“But you are also important to me, and so is the baby,” Dan said.
“It’s okay… we still have a lot of time left before the baby comes,” Phil nodded.
Dan smiled softly and then he gently kissed Phil. “I have to leave right away but I’ll Skype you as soon as I get to my hotel, okay?” He whispered, kissing Phil again.
“Okay, have a safe flight,” Phil said, taking a deep breath.
Dan grabbed his suitcase and then he looked at Phil again. “It’ll be fine, I promise,”
“I know… I’m just… emotional,” Phil chuckled slightly. “I love you.”
“I love you too,” Dan gently kissed Phil a few times before walking out of their bedroom.

Two weeks later, and Dan was leaving again. Phil was absolutely livid, and heartbroken.
“I can’t believe you!” Phil yelled. He was watching Dan pack his suitcase… again.
“I’m sorry!” Dan yelled, sighing as he put clothes into his suitcase.
“That’s what you said two weeks ago when you left me,” Phil snapped.
“I’m not leaving you,” Dan sighed. “It’s just for…”
“A couple of days. Dan, I’m getting tired of this,” Phil sighed in frustration.
“I need to get the documentary done now while I have the time. Because I know when this baby comes, it’s going to be hard to find time to do… anything!” Dan shouted.
“I’ve given you so many second chances…” Phil began to say.
“I promise, this is the last time for a while,” Dan said, more calmly.
“Somehow I find that hard to believe,” Phil grumbled, looking away from Dan.
Dan sighed and then he zipped up his suitcase. “Phil,” he started. “I’m not doing this to hurt you or the baby, our baby. Our baby boy. I’m doing this because I want to get things done now so that I can have more time later to spend time with you both.” He grabbed his suitcase and put it on the ground. He walked over to Phil and looked up at him. “You have every right to be mad at me but… just know that I’m only doing this for you and the baby.”
“Whatever, just go…” Phil mumbled, walking out of the room.
“Phil, wait, please!” Dan sighed and hid his face in his hands. He didn’t even have time to make things right, because he had a flight to make to Sweden. He was starting to regret doing this whole thing, because now the one he loved didn’t seem to trust him anymore.
As soon as Dan left, Phil went to his bedroom and called his friend, PJ.
“Hey, what’s up?” PJ asked when he answered his phone.
“He left again,” Phil took a deep breath as his eyes began to water up.
“What? Who left again? Are you talking about Dan?” PJ asked.
“Yes, he left again. He’s going to Sweden for the documentary,” Phil said.
“I thought Dan said he wasn’t leaving again for awhile?” PJ asked, confused.
“Yeah… he did say that. He’s been to Germany and now he’s going to Sweden. I know this documentary is important to him but… I can’t do this pregnancy on my own,” Phil sighed.
“Does Dan even care about the baby?” PJ asked.
“All he keeps saying is that he’s doing this for the baby, he’s doing all this travelling now so that he’ll have more time later to spend with the two of us. I’m having a hard time believing anything that he’s saying though. It just feels like he wants to be away from me,” Phil said sadly. “I don’t know what I’m supposed to do anymore with this…”
“Phil, you need to do what is right for you,” PJ said softly.
“But Dan’s the father of the baby… I want him to be apart of the baby’s life. Things will be… uh, complicated… if we split up now. I love him and I don’t want to have to leave him,” Phil said. “I just… I wish Dan would listen to me when I say I can’t do this on my own.”
“Then you need to sit him down and tell him. Dan is part of the reason why you’re pregnant so he needs to own up to it and help take care of you. You’re already stressed enough about a million other things, and this isn’t helping either. And if he doesn’t listen to you after that, then I will come down there myself and make him understand.”
Phil laughed. “I have the most awesome best friend in the world,” he said.
“I just want you and the baby to be happy. You deserve it,” PJ assured.
“Thanks. I just… have a lot of thinking to do,” Phil sighed.
__________
“I can’t believe I’m about to have a baby,” Phil laughed.
“It’s been a long time coming, huh?” Chris smiled as he stood next to PJ.
“I just wish Dan could have been here,” Phil whispered.
PJ rolled his eyes. “I know you don’t want to hear this, Phil… but Dan doesn’t care, and I think he’s proved that to all of us with the amount that he’s been gone this pregnancy,”
“PJ’s right… if he really did care… he wouldn’t have left at all,” Chris said.
In just a few hours, or any moment, for that matter… Phil would be giving birth.
It’s been a really rough pregnancy for Phil, but he got through it with the help of Chris and PJ, and Phil was just ready to meet his baby boy, even if Dan wasn’t here for the birth.
“Did you come up with a final name?” Chris asked curiously.
“I think… I’m going to go with Noah. Noah James,” Phil said.
“James?” PJ asked, frowning, knowing that James was Dan’s middle name.
“Despite him not being here right now, we’re still together… he’s still apart of the baby’s life, no matter what. Trust me, it was hard debating on, fuck-” Phil gasped when he felt another contraction, which he had been having all night. “When is this baby coming?”
“Are you okay? Do I need to get a nurse or a doctor?” PJ asked.
Phil shook his head. “No, I’m fine… for now,” he said.
“Well, you…” PJ stopped talking when he heard a knock on the door.
“Who is that?” Chris asked before he walked over to the door. He opened it slightly and glared as soon as he saw that it was Dan standing outside. He looked over at PJ and mouthed ‘It’s Dan’ to him. They were both incredibly angry at Dan, and didn’t even want him there.
“I’ll be right back,” PJ said before walking over to Chris and walking outside with him. PJ shut the door and crossed his arms against his chest as he looked up at Dan. “What… the hell?”
“Has Phil given birth yet?” Dan asked, he was sweating and had just run from the airport.
“Oh, now you care?” Chris asked, raising his eyebrows.
“What are you talking about? Of course I care!” Dan yelled, shocked Chris would even think something like that. “That’s my boyfriend in there… about to give birth to my son!”
“I bet you don’t even know what his name is going to be,” PJ snapped.
“Noah James,” Dan snapped, glaring at PJ.
“How did you know that?” Chris asked, blinking a few times.
“Because we came up with the God damn name together. Wow, some friends you are…”
“Look, you’ve barely been here throughout the whole pregnancy, and we’re the ones who’ve had to be at your house, helping Phil. Can you blame us?” PJ asked.
“I already told Phil months ago… I was leaving so much because I wanted to get this stupid documentary finished, and for the record, I did. I didn’t want to have to leave home when the baby was here because I wanted to be there and help Phil,” Dan said.
“Shit,” Chris and PJ were both feeling guilty for treating Dan like this. “We’re sorry, man..”
“It’s fine, I actually don’t blame you… I’d have done the same,” Dan sighed. “Now can I please go in and see Phil? I haven’t seen him in a week. Is the baby here yet?”
PJ shook his head. “No, he’s not here yet, but he’ll be here any moment…” He finally opened the door and all three of them walked in. “Guess he did show up.”
Phil looked over and gasped as soon as he saw Dan. “I knew you’d be here!”
Dan ran over to Phil and hugged him. “God, I am so sorry,” he whispered.
“It’s okay. I’m not mad at you,” Phil closed his eyes as they hugged.
“I would be if I were you,” Dan laughed as he pulled away from the hug.
“We’re going to have a baby,” Phil whispered as he looked up at Dan.
“I know,” Dan couldn’t help but smile. “Are you ready?”
“Yeah… I’ve been ready for the past nine months,” Phil smiled.
“I can’t believe we’re going to be parents,” Dan breathed.
“Well, you better believe it,” Phil nodded. “I’m just so exhausted…”
“Don’t worry, after the baby comes… you’re getting rest whether you like it or not,” Dan warned gently. “I know how hard this was for you and I’m sorry I wasn’t there…”
“Stop apologizing. You did what you had to do,” Phil said.
Dan nodded. “I promise, from now on… I’m going to be there for you and Noah,”
“Good. That’s what I wanted to hear from you,” Phil couldn’t help but smile.
