hot take but the phandom attributes way too much of what happened in 2012 to the vday video. yes, it happened and it had a considerable effect on dnp, but you know what also happened in 2011-2012? Dan dropping out of university, the sudden growth of YouTube as a platform and their overnight fame, the move to London (complete with all its financial worries), the uncertainty of their careers with the BBC, the situation with Dan's brother, Dan's quarter-life crisis and continuing battle with untreated depression, and any other personal drama that may have happened that we know nothing about. like, it was a tough year, but I think a lot of people really over-simplify what happened, and there's likely a lot more to the story than what any of us could know. Dan and Phil deserve better than to be regarded as those guys who got pissy and hostile over a video leak.

yes i was!! in like 2012-2014 i had like 20 followers or something i still watched them and adore their content but their fucking fandom IS THE WORST THING i hate 99% of the fuckers in it AND IM IN THE SPN FANDOM so that can tell you just how bad things are people somehow managed to get pissed at dan for liking a tweet joking about having low self of steam? it’s PAINFUL to watch!! dan and phil are two of the most lovely guys ever they do so much and are ONLY good to their fans but they get more hate and drama than literally anyone else i have seen and they have ZERO fucking controversy’s the fandom has literally ruined the dnp brand and some of them are the most disrespectful people ever but they are also some of the most talented beautiful people ever and i kinda miss it but god it’s so not worth it
