I was going to make a joke that teen Johnny had a Daniel shrine like Hegla had one for Arnold in Hey Arnold-but I realized that the person that still has one is Terry Silver. That man has meticulously maintained it for thirty years. He gets one of his minions to go through Daniel's trash every week. Someoem's sole job is recording every LaRusso Auto Ad and just cropping Daniel out.

It's canon ok. And I don't think any of us will be surprised to find out he has a whole dossier on Daniel's life since 1985. He probably bribed a judge to remove any and all restraining orders, just biding his time.

Daniel's auto ad plays 24/7 on twenty different television screens simultaneously while Silver just stands in front of them seething.

Let's call it right now one of the first things Terry says is, "I missed you, Danny boy."

oh boy, haha, i actually wasn’t expecting anyone to ask about this.

well, if you MUST know, i was referring to this fic that i posted a little bit ago on ao3--the title is “sex thing,” which pretty much sets the tone for the work. it’s sort of my personal exploration of johnny’s relationship to gender through the only lens i think johnny would currently be capable of exploring it through, which translates to a bunch of really nasty p*rn. 

copying over the warnings from ao3, this fic probably isn’t for everyone, and i would particularly watch out for cissexism and mild (internalized) transphobia, along with some possibly misogynistic language.

Thinking about Johnny going to AA: he would walk in and the burrito lady from s1 would be literally the first person he sees. They get into a fight over the coffee. They're best friends by the end of the night but damn if they ever say it.

Also, thinking about Johnny's rap sheet, there's a chance he's had court appointed AA at some point, or he's one public intoxication charge away from it.

All this Terry stuff has got me wondering: was Daniel his first actual student? Has Terry ever actually taught anyone before? Besides the training he and Kreese did with Barnes, there's a chance that Daniel was Terry's last student too. (Though him showing up in s4 with an army of students isn't actually that far fetched lol.)

Right? I've thought about that too. Because if Terry had any interest in teaching, you think he'd have joined Kreese in the dojo years ago.

And it might explain why he was so excited whenever Daniel made progress. It always feels good as a teacher when your student actually learns something. Not that Terry needs the ego trip lol, but his first time being a sensei was going pretty good. Y'know, besides the brutality and ulterior motive... I still think Terry was of two minds about the whole thing.

On the other hand, Terry seemed pretty comfortable in a teacher role. Like maybe he'd done it before. He does threaten at one point to teach Cobra Kai karate for free(👀). Other little hints like Terry being surprised that Daniel was a fast learner, compared to others he's trained maybe?

I wish we knew what he was thinking the first time he met Daniel in person. Like, 'Really? This tiny little lesbian beat Cobra Kai?' I mean that in the most loving way... Daniel is a smol but the biggest man in any room. Anyway

And Kreese didn't seem surprised either when Terry said he was going to become Daniel's new sensei. We know at some point Kreese taught Silver and eventually they start Cobra Kai together, possibly when they were still in the Army. So it's likely they could have taught other soldiers together.

The first time we see Terry he's sparring with these two dudes:

I always assumed they were Dennis and Snake. And that Terry trained them so they could be his punching bags sparring partners.

I don't want to know why Terry hangs out with teenage boys lmao. I've seen him described in articles as a playboy or womanizer and clearly those people did not watch the movie! Any dang way, it's not a stretch to think Terry trained Dennis and Snake since we saw them sparring and later fighting Daniel... although they weren't very good compared to Danny boy.

Omg, there's many reasons I'm excited for Season 4 of Cobra Kai but a big one is definitely what happened to Terry Silver after Karate Kid III.

Daniel very well could have been Terry's last student. He might have lost the taste for teaching and karate after that excruciating loss at the tournament.

I mean, can we talk real quick about Terry's plan to open TWENTY Cobra Kai dojos around the Valley?? I can't stop laughing. My mans really wanted Cobra Kai on every street corner. The Starbucks of Karate.

Obviously that plan went out the window. But I don't really get why? Why not try and open them anyway and see what happens? Guess we'll find out in s4. It's probably the simple answer.

But seriously I am DYING to know what happened to Terry. The last moment we see him in the movie is so abrupt??? He literally just... leaves...

It's great. But leaves us with so many questions.

Am I reading into it or was Terry looking a little contrite with his hands clasped together? Maybe? Thinky thoughts. Probably upset he let his friend down, right? Disbelief that after weeks of a meticulously crafted plan and training Mike and money spent-- he still lost. To Daniel fucking Larusso. Oh, their reunion is going to be epic.

I'm kind of hoping we'll get flashbacks or more info about right after the '85 tournament. 👀

It's just so hard to believe that Terry left Daniel completely alone after that.

Who knows. But it's hilarious to think he just immediately left the building and ran to his limo to hide forever. A building he just bought and donated. They have to bring that up in the show right? How do you get banned from a building you bought. Iconic.

And you see the camera flashes during that scene? I like to think Daniel has a picture of this moment hanging on his wall:

Ahh, memories.

He probably doesn't because Trauma but you never know.

Hopefully Season 4 answers all these things. I think you're right about Terry bringing in new students though.

Do you think they were trying to draw a parallel between Miguel's injury and Daniel's, but, like overshot the severity, or do you you think they're going to address Daniel's injury being more severe when ever they bring up the trophy moment and the kinda hinted at post tournament Johnny & Daniel moment Ali's unaware of?

Those are great questions! I never thought about it that way before, but now that you mention it...

I don't think the parallel is between the injuries themselves per se, there is one, but I think it's mostly between Johnny and his desire to do the right thing this time around. Miguel and Robby mirror his intentions. Albeit with harsher consequences.

With Miguel also being an amalgam of Johnny and Daniel from '84.

So we know that basically Miguel represents a What if Daniel Had Joined Cobra Kai Instead - the characters are so similar in personality - AND he's a face for how Johnny wishes he were as a teenager. How Johnny wishes he were taught.

Miguel has the best parts of both Johnny and Daniel. And yet he was the aggressor in the school fight.

While Robby, who is essentially a mirror for all of Johnny's anger, represented the merciful side of karate at the time.

Cut to the balcony kick.

Miguel showed mercy, on purpose, which is what Johnny wishes he had done during the '84 tournament. Robby showed no mercy, on accident, a parallel to young Johnny who hurt Daniel on purpose. Both sides of the same coin. History repeats itself etc.

You could argue 'well Robby kicked Miguel on purpose', but he never intended for him to suffer such a severe injury. Johnny and Bobby were specifically told to take Daniel out of commission.

You could also argue that Johnny indirectly caused Miguel's fall by failing to parent Robby. The whole reap what you sow thing. The irony levels are tragic.

I have a point I swear. Which is that I think Miguel's injury was to parallel Johnny and his good intentions; what he wishes he had done instead. Having said that

What I can't figure out is why the message Johnny is getting is that it doesn't matter what your intentions are-- the results will be the same.

Because there IS the parallel of Johnny feeling responsible and terrible guilt for hurting Daniel, and for hurting Miguel by feeling as though he failed him. Even though he did everything right this time!

The results were the same.

As for the severity of Daniel's injury... I haven't seen any signs. He seemed fine in the sequel movies. But the show has already rewritten some of the movie canon, so it's not crazy to think they won't ever bring it up in the show.

And it's canon that Daniel will tell people he's fine when he's not...

Could be nothing. I'd have to rewatch the whole series to remember every instance I had the inkling of a limp.

But I'm not sure if that's just me reading too much into how Daniel walks lol.

And we're definitely getting the trophy moment discussion. Hopefully next season. It'd be nice if Johnny apologized to Daniel for everything in high school and for the knee.

BUT the only reason I can see why they'd make a point to bring up the knee injury again is if Daniel gets hurt there again by an upcoming villain. If it's exploited somehow.

It's funny, in the show, Daniel seems to be more upset that he was pushed down a hill.

MAYBE the moment that Ali doesn't know about... is that Johnny already apologized to Daniel for the knee. Maybe it wasn't recieved very well. Maybe another misunderstanding happened between them about it.

Maybe they had plans to talk or hang out and Daniel never showed up because he rushed off to Okinawa and forgot all about it

SOMETHING HAPPENED

And I think next season is the perfect time to bring everything out into the open.

Johnny and Daniel will be together at Miyagi-Do(there's no way Johnny can ignore how Miyagi and now Daniel saved his life), and both men will have to confront their failures with Robby.

But I have hope because Miguel represents them perfectly balanced
