There are a couple explanations i can think of for the phone cameras used earlier than they should be in link click.
Explanation One: since it’s a fictionalized version of the world (bridon instead of london, they’re in a fictional city in china, people have powers etc) they might have just decided smart phones existed already because they just wanted them to.
Explanation Two: a similar type of full screen phone did exist in 2009, and the marriage by contesting episode was supposed to be like a special episode to honor a real couple so they may have just.. not bothered with the real world continuity for that one.
Explication three (not a serious explanation): due to time travel, the smart phone was invented way earlier because cxs went back into the past as himself at one point and just him having a smart phone changed the past asfjldjshdzvmkls
Anyways ur post has caused me to go on a deep dive down a rabbit hole of the development of smart phones in china lol

but re: #1: I guess the world of Link Click is fictional to some extent…but it’s also very real in ways it doesn’t have to be.
Like, in s2e2 (or 3, not sure), they had Liu Jing mention the metaverse with some business partners. Season 2 is set in 2021, and that’s the year “metaverse” became a buzzword because of Facebook renaming itself to Meta.
And apparently, COVID also exists in the linkclickverse…
So, if Link Click can incorporate such timely real-life events in the show, I don’t see why they’d just hand-wave the details on the smartphones
Explanation 2 seems more plausible, but can somebody with a copy of S1E5.5 give me a screenshot of the scene where the couple allegedly took a photo with their phone. I remember my brother also commenting how it was odd because the phone was too modern. However, the one I have in my copy is this:
They took a photo with a Polaroid camera.
My season 1 copy is something I recently redownloaded, though, because my original copy got corrupted for some reason. Maybe the team also realized the mistake and fixed it by replacing the phone with a camera?
