Je trouve désespérant de voir qu’en France le sport, dont le foot, n’est pas considéré comme un sujet digne de réflexion, d’une écriture qui ne soit pas sous-payée, bâclée, formatée… Penser qu’écrire sur le football signe un manque d’ambition littéraire est une réaction complètement débile. Le football n’est guère que la manifestation culturelle globale la plus importante du XXIe siècle. Il a même une portée culturelle plus forte que la musique.

Migrant workers toil six days a week (no summer break for them), 10 hours a day, for less than $10 (£6.40) a shift. They are crammed in rudimentary camps devoid of decent sanitation and – not a luxury in Qatar – air conditioning. Credible evidence suggests a staggering death rate (100 plus victims per year) among the young, fit men who come to work there. Those young men go to bed and never wake up; their hearts, weakened by overwork, heat exposure and dehydration, simply give up with no warning. They call it 'sleeping death'.

coiffeur (kwä-fûr), n. 1. French for male hairdresser. 2. A player who is part of the squad, but never plays in it. Always derog. Based on the notion that said player has nothing to do but to look after the hairstyles of his teammates.

Example, from last season: Cech est dans le match; Hilario et Turnbull sont les coiffeurs.
