Well, her eyes were definitely moving, but they weren’t opening. It felt like someone had sewed them shut, or like those eye crusts that people got had built up enough and solidified. Gross. But a possibility maybe?
No. That couldn’t be it. Because it wasn’t just her eyes that felt heavy; it was every part of her body that felt like an insanely heavy force was holding it down.
She tried wiggling her fingers.
“Bodily movement detected.”
Whatever that voice was, it sure was agitating.
Wait, pause. ‘Bodily movement detected’ meant that her fingers had moved, she just didn’t feel them!
Maybe talking worked too…?
“He…hm…” Ew, she sounded gross—
Christ, it sounded like a fucking Alexa.
“Alerting additional crew.”
“Who…? Crew…” Her voice was coming back quickly, but she could hear how groggy it was.
“Crew consists of.” A pause. “Dr. Ryland Grace.”
Her eyes short tighter and she could feel her brow furrow; ‘Ryland Grace.’ The name sounded familiar.
Huh. Maybe she got a TBI or something and he was her doctor? But then…why would Alexa refer to him as ‘crew?’
Thinking on it, a TBI was not that unlikely; beyond her face, she couldn’t feel herself moving even though she was, she had no idea what happened or where she was, and her head hurt like a bitch. Definitely hurt enough for some frontal or temporal lobes to be damaged.
But… yes, she was confused, but her confused thoughts were coming in clearly— she was speaking to herself in her own head. Someone with a severe TBI wouldn’t be able to do that.
A few moments after all that TBI contemplation, something sounded like it was shifting or moving, or maybe creaking? And after that, faint noises of heavy-ish footsteps started becoming clear and clearer.
