do your phonetics lecturers also use "why don't you try to produce it" as the all-purpose solution to our (relevant) questions. like i asked mine whether vocal fry is more feasible for people with lower pitched voices and they invited me to try it out myself. yeah. it does seem more feasible for lower pitched voices.
Mine have never done that, actually. Not even at my last uni, but each class only had about four students there, so everything was designed to be very discussion-like and not class-like.
But my current phonology lecturer has identified various regional accents in the class and will call on random students to say certain things when he wants to make a point.
I'm lucky he doesn't know much about Welsh Valleys accents
A phonetic alphabet for sperm whales proposed by Daniela Rus, Antonio Torralba and Jacob Andreas.
The open-access study published in Nature Communications titled 'Contextual and combinatorial structure in sperm whale vocalisations', has analysed sperm whale vocalizations and as part of that, a phonetic 'alphabet' has been proposed for them.
So cool. Dolphins next please.
Sperm whales use sequences of clicks to communicate. Here, the authors show that these vocalizations are significantly more complex than pre

So it has already been a while but I added some nice small lesson.
Then you might think, what does Perseus PRS has to do with it? Well, that's about time. I thought it was 29, sorry I have to make some calculation here but it turned out much higher and that is about altitude. Thankyou Perseus! So, let's move on to the alphabet from last time. Again, words are written and read from left to right and you say exactly what you write. No silent letters + no combi letters that make a sound.
First practise: So how do you write your name?
