So finally, Spinel confirms with Condor and 83 that she’s going to go ahead with the first mission proposal. And just as a recap; her first mission is to retrieve 83’s favourite toolset, a gift from Pink Diamond stolen from the armoury by 83’s sisters Pnicto and Britt. Spinel and Steven will head off to their new destination now, and Chapter 3 will be about their first real adventure!

And, like it says on the page – that’s all for Chapter 2!!! Thank you all SOOO much for sticking around this long!!! Chapter 2 may have been shorter than Chapter 1, but unfortunately due to delays, schoolwork and the amount of detail per page, it ended up taking way longer than Chapter 1 did… but honestly? I’m not mad about it!!! Looking back on Chapter 1 I can clearly see how my art has evolved and improved, and I’m actually very happy!!! In the end, I got there, didn’t I? And I’m so proud of the reception, the fanart and all the comments I’ve got!!!

So thank you all, this comic wouldn’t be possible if it weren’t for you!!! Here’s a great big THANK YOU to all my readers!!!

I’ll be active on Tumblr and DeviantArt posting odd art and more PIC concept art over the next few months while I start working on Chapter 3. Expect some more announcements and posts coming up here soon ^^

Spinel instinctively takes offense at what 83 says about her species – but steels herself. After all, 83’s not being (the gem equivalent of) racist; she’s actually being genuinely concerned. Would a king send his court jester to do the work of his huntsman?

Also 83 straight up tells Spinel “I like ya cut, g.” And Spinel, still self-conscious about her new form, reluctantly thanks her for the compliment. It’s quite similar to her interaction with Steven back in Chapter 1.

Third section look familiar? ^^ It’s not entirely screen accurate, there were some aquamarines I took out and some red lumps I added in (and I basically redesigned the entirety of the Homeworld background AND moved everyone from the top of the legs to the bottom) so before anyone says “That’s not accurate to the show >:T” TOO BAD because the editable file deleted itself so this is all you’re getting >:)

We know that Pink Diamond led the rebellion as her alter ego, Rose Quartz. As we saw in the previous page, Condor had the suspicion that Pink was somehow involved, or did not detest the rebel efforts. And, a few thousand years later, she found out that Pink was indeed involved – she WAS Rose Quartz. For a rogue like Condor, who was loyal to both her Diamond and the love she found on Earth, this was the best possible outcome. Pink was never her enemy – it was only the other Diamonds.

And even after Era 3, they still are. But more on that later.

(Also the main room of the armoury may look slightly different… that is because I realised how plain it looks earlier in the chapter and realised it should have those star charts so YES those are supposed to be there – the mural, however, is meant to be different… but I’m not sure if I should leave it as those boring hibiscuses. Maybe the gem who paints those changes them regularly? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)

(Also I think this is our first glimpse of Condor and 83's personal/non-work relationship... late Chapter 3 we'll see even more ^^)

An origin story to how the tools were stolen… and to what extent their value is. Not necessarily physical value, but emotional value. 83 was betrayed by two of her dear sisters, who came back just to try and entice her to a planet she didn’t want to work on. And, after refusing, the gems stole 83’s precious set of tungsten tools.

But for what? Spite? Retaliation? Or, for something else…?

I like to think of what we saw in SUF Episode 4 Volleyball, where Pink Pearl shows off the ribbon wand that Pink Diamond gave to her as a gift. I wouldn’t be surprised if many of Pink’s court received gifts from her – it seems it was her nature to be kind and generous to the gems in her service.

Well, except for Spinel, I guess…

Spinel knows the blatant truth would land her in a ton of trouble that she ain’t looking for, so she sums it up in a very honest and non-suspicious statement. And hey, it really isn’t a lie – it’s just not the whole truth.

Spinel’s first job as a mercenary/bounty hunter is to retrieve some stolen tools!!! There’ll be more information about these specific tools in the next two pages, including why they were stolen, who stole them, where they were taken, and why this mission isn’t as boring as it sounds. Yup, it’s gonna be a high stakes stealth mission for Spinel – a REAL test of her abilities. (And mine, since I’m gonna have to draw the whole thing happening XD)

And we have our first interaction between Spinel and the bismuth, 83!!! And, well… 83 isn’t initially as friendly as Condor was. But who knows, maybe she’s just got a hard outer shell? ^^ After all, you can’t trust everyone you meet. Rogues especially have reason to distrust strangers. For a gem like 83, it’s pretty easy to show others you’re not someone to mess with; so Spinel is feeling VERY intimidated right now.

(Sorry if the lighting is strange/off in this page, I’m still experimenting a LOT with lighting and shading and effects and things… TwT)

Have you ever had the urge to draw your characters in a style you've never tried before... and really really liked the outcome??? XDDD

I've never attempted a 'chibi' style before!!! These two are of course my beloved gem OCs, Condor Agate and 83 <333 I got inspiration for the style from Google, but honestly it was very hard finding a chibi-styled reference picture for dreadlocks. I kinda winged it a little bit for 83... and I'm pretty satisfied with how it came out!!!

I will absolutely be doing more in the future, maybe even of Steven and Spinel!!! Although to be fair I might wait until Steven gets his full character design in Chapter 9... I guess I could do both his current one and his future one later on ^^

We get some backstory on the five bismuths, including their names and a close view of their faces! As we saw on Page 46, the bismuths Maggie and Rusty moved to Homeworld not too long after Steven liberated the galaxy in Change Your Mind. Pnicto and Britt, however, stayed a little bit longer after… which hurt 83 even more when they left as well, with no better explanation other than having “better things to do” there.

But then… why would they have stolen 83’s tungsten toolset? What was the motive? Guess we’ll find out more next page…

(Also the big panel shows the dock at the back of the Armoury, as in the complete opposite direction from the bridge that Spinel uses earlier on in the chapter. In Chapter 5 we’ll see a lot more of this area!)
