Boat on The Fjords!
Sorry no photos today =( but isn’t the imagination just as good ^^
A few days have pasted since my last post entry. Remember Johann? Well he told me that his fiancé’s dad owns 2 boats for fishing and said he wanted us, including this fiancé, Eva, to go out on the the Denmark strip. We agreed that they would meet me at my hotel at high noon to take me to the port. Back at home, nobody would think to take a stranger on boat ride after a week. But parts of me thinks a friend of a friend is family here. I learned his fiancé works at a fishing management corp. I guess fishing runs in the family.
I love the smell the place but when we reached the dock it just smelt like sweaty men and fish. I guess I shouldn't be surprise :) I have secret, I’ve never been on a boat, I was nervous. I met Eva’s father, he is quite a silent man. Not much of a conversationalist but he very kind and helped me board the boat and offered some afternoon snacks of dried fish bits. I still don’t know how I feel about those.
We sailed full speed ahead out of the fjords. The landscape was so dramatic on the cliffs on the fjord with spots of snow. So majestic and grand. They cut into the clouds in the sky. The boat stopped and Eva brought out food. There I am, eating on some “stranger’s” boat in Iceland along the Fjords. I don’t know what I did to get this. It just started out with a small greeting Johann. Guys you really never know where people may take you life. So always be open to people that look like Johann, a socially awkward guy or just anyone. They have the deepest feelings.
They didn’t tell me this, so I’m a little upset but they were taking me to Hnífsdalur. A small village close to Ísafjörður. Eva’s dad had some business there so Eva and Johann took me to some “hotspots”. It was such a small place there was almost nothing there but I could see there was a lot of history. They told me that tourist did come to Ísafjörður but on cruise ships. But they hate when they come because their town isn’t able to support them. There’s too many. They rarely go out since all the bars and restaurants are overwhelmed and some the tourist don’t know how to behave. (I’m afraid I’m one of those lol) I’m just amazed that people pay thousands of dollars to get to a curise and here I am loafing off the locals. I feel so bad for them, they are missing so much by staying on that moving island.
We went back after some sightseeing. I didn’t write everything that happened, maybe later or not. But I am so tired from that boat. My stomach doesn’t settle with the waves, well till next time!!
