Hey dude I have a question. I recently took a quiz about political beliefs and it said I most align with Pete Buttigieg. I know most people on here dislike him, but I really know nothing about him. What's the case against him? Also, this isn't an attack. I'm just trying to get a handle on who he is.

But the short answer is this: Pete is a centrist (read: conservative leaning) Democrat. We don’t need anymore Democratic candidates who overvalue “reaching out to Republicans”.

Pete also is being propped up by billionaire donors, and fluff pieces on MSNBC and CNN. And sorry, but any politician who says, “I can take millions and millions of dollars from someone, but that doesn’t mean that I’ll give them special treatment” IS LYING.

And speaking of lying, Pete has lived to be 35yrs old and has formed no significant friendship with a black person. But that fact hasn’t stopped him from repeatedly LYING about having black supporters:

SN: If you have travelled at all in your life, like I have and like Pete has (even more than me), then you should have at least formed some kind of close bonds with people of other races. Hell, even EYE have *some* close white friends. I’m always a tad bit suspicious of white people who are a certain age and it SHOWS that they have no experience even simply being around black people.

And Pete has the audacity to suggest that the reason he has no support amongst black voters is due to our inherent homophobia. As if black people are somehow uniquely more homophobic than white people or any other demographic. That is a racist stereotype that far too many “liberals” have levied against black people since before I was born. I personally resent tf outta that.

And Idk, Pete talks in circles? In platitudes? It’s like he’s an empty suit full of hot air. If a billionaire puts a nickel in his back, then he’ll spit out another platitude that’s been tested with focus groups. Pete seems fake af.

And I almost forgot about Pete’s relationship with his black constituents in South Bend. I’ll take their word on how well he relates to black people. And surprise - their word on Pete ain’t good.

Lastly, Pete used his embarrassing loss in Nevada to take a swing at Sanders. I guess #VoteBlueMatterWho and saying, “The most important thing is to unite against Trump” are more lies and empty platitudes that (surprise) don’t apply to Bernie.

That’s a small and petty move, from a small and petty man.

In summary: Pete is for sale to the highest billionaire bidder, and he’s racist, and he doesn’t have the depth to be president.

Hi! Could a spear potentially reach someone's brain by being thrust through the eye socket? Even if the anatomy didn't comply for this to be possible for a human, do you think it's possible for this to happen to an animal? Thanks! Love your blog 💙

So we looked at the skull a few asks ago, which lookie like this: 

As you can see, the ocular fissure, the hole where the “eyeball nerves” come out is very small. The previous ask specified a pin, and I said it would be unlikely. 

A spear, however, is a fully different animal. A spear has large amounts of mass and  force. 

A spear -- especially one which isn’t particularly wide at the tip, like a sharpened stake or javelin -- could go straight through the eye and into the brain. It would simply have to shatter the sphenoid bone -- the yellow one in the pic -- on the way through. Not a huge problem for a spear, dealbreaker for a pin. 

The accuracy required is the purview of a different blog.

Hey, I was wondering if you have tips for after you finish the draft of a story? I'm judging mine really hard. Character arcs, relationships, personalities, amd chemistry just all aren't developed enough, and my story lacks tension and angst. I want it to be a roller coaster of emotions but right now it's like kiddy slide. I can't even begin to think how to fix it. Sorry for my slight rant, and btw your blog is great :)

honestly, i feel the same way about everything I’ve ever written ever.  you’ve been thinking about it and working on it for so long that none of it is surprising or interesting to you anymore…

the best solution I have found is getting a super enthusiastic friend (thats you Nicole) to read what you have.  They can point out the bits that dont make sense while still being super hype and enjoying what I’m sure is a wonderful rollercoaster youve built

Also, if these characters I mentioned in my last ask have been undergoing therapy for weeks, how prominent should their mental ilnesses be in the story? On another note, do you know if coma patients recieve their usual meds for their mental ilnesses?

My inbox is a bit of a mess, and I’m not sure what your previous ask was, sorry. 

Mental illness can be as prominent as you want it to be; it’s your story. Some mental illnesses have a more pervasive effect on a character’s life than others, and should not be treated lightly. 

I’m not qualified to give you an answer about medications in a coma; I would refer you to @scriptpharmacist , but they’re currently inactive.

Hi! I think that a character I'm going to write will be aromantic, but how do I show that? How do I distuish her from someone who's just not into dating? Thanks :)

Before I answer this, I want to say that unless you say outright your character is asexual and aromantic, people will automatically assume, “oh, they just aren’t interested.” Even if you do, there will still be those that will deny their asexuality and aromanticism. Don’t let that scare you off, though. Those people will be outnumbered by the people who are grateful to see themselves in literature.

You can say that the character is not interested in a sexual/romantic relationship and they won’t ever be interested in anyone. You can slip a simple definition of asexual aromantic in, saying that the character is not sexually or romantically attracted to anyone. If you want go and add another layer, you can add that they aren’t aesthetically attracted to anyone.

There are many different approaches to ace aro characters. You can have them be sex/romance positive, which means that they are willing to be in a sexual/romantic relationship, but they don’t experience the same sexual and romantic attraction out of it that a non ace aro person would. You could have them be sex/romance neutral, which means they don’t care about that sort of relationship and they don’t want it, but they are willing to consider it. The third type, but certainly not the last, would be the sex/romance averse, who are disgusted by or strongly dislike sex and romance, and are not willing to be in a relationship.

Regardless of which option you choose to go with, you will probably need to spell it out for your readers. Your character can explain themselves to another character or the ace aro character can discuss their identity with another character. However, unless your story is set in a modern or futuristic setting, you may not be able to use the terms asexual and aromantic. If that is the case, the character could say that they are not interested, or something similar, or the culture that the story is set in may have its own word/term (that you’d need to research or invent to suit the culture’s knowledge/attitude.)

Whatever you decide to do, be sure to stick with it throughout the entire story. Do not have your character start out as ace aro and sex/romance repulsed and then have them meet ‘The One’ who changes their opinion of sex and romance. (If that’s what you want to have happen, your character is not asexual and aromantic, they are demisexual/demiromantic or gray-ace/grey-aro. Please don’t fix us in your story.)

Hi! I have a character who joins a cult. They worship a goddess who's supposed to come to Earth eventually and give them them the power to end war, povery, etc. Except, for the goddess to materialize on Earth, the cult has to do something to get her there. I want it to be dark, dark enough for the MC to leave the cult, but I want to avoid the cliche sacrifice trope. Any ideas?

Hmmm. There could be a series of crimes they have to commit. (Murder, kidnapping, theft, etc). All sorts of different ones and different people voted on by the cult members must complete them?

I started this blog in September 2015. I have no idea why I’m so lucky to have so many really great followers but I think it’s important that you don’t give up. The first prompts I posted nearly got no attention from anyone. For the first 100 prompts or so I often got like ten or twenty notes. But I kept on doing it and in 2016 I had a few prompts that got me a lot of followers and it motivates me to keep going even though I often don’t find enough time anymore (which I’m working on!) And for me what’s even more important than notes and followers is when I check some of my prompts and see that someone reblogged it and said that they got inspired by it or that it reminded them of someone or something. That really is one of the best feelings you can get :)

Hello :) idk if this is the right script family member to ask this question, but if there was a bio leak from a government facility, could it make the adults sick but not any kids? And could the kids develop enhancements? Thanks

Hi! Thank you for writing in!

I’m not entirely sure what you mean by a ‘bio leak’ but I’m guessing some kind of compound released that affects biological processes. In all likelihood, children (and the elderly) would probably be less able to fight off an infection or toxin than adults, because their immune systems tend to be less developed. However, one thing that does cause adults to die while kids survive is a rare response called a cytokine storm. This happens when the cytokines (immune cells that signal other immune cells to respond to an infection) 'glitch', and signal too many immune cells at once, which then hurts the patient. This can be fatal, and is actually believed to be part of why so many young adults die during certain influenza outbreaks (particularly the Spanish flu, H1N1 (swine flu), and H5N1 (bird flu))

But if you don't want to do that, then you'll just need to come up with a reason of your own why your adults get sick and kids don't. For instance, maybe there’s a vaccine to whatever gets released, and it’s already been administered to the kids (by who and for what purpose, now that’s the question). It could possibly even modify their DNA to give them superhuman enhancements once they’re exposed to the compound.

Or, maybe it's a virus like chicken pox, which lingers in the body even after the person who had it is cured. Then, the virus can be 'woken up' again, triggering a completely different illness (shingles, in the case of chicken pox). It's not entirely clear what causes the reactivation of the virus, but it often happens due to the immune system getting weaker from age, stress, or illness, or due to certain medications.

It’s really up to coming up with a reasoning that fits your story, and then being able to explain it.
