I really, really loved the scene with Ray and Phoon talking because it played so well both their characters but also with their circumstances and some of the conceits of the genre of BL.
Because Phoon and Pierce have a more realistic relationship with a realistic issue. Phoon is tired of being in the closet and hiding their love and Pierce, apparently, isn't. And they're struggling to talk about it because they're speaking different languages, the language of waiting until the right time and the language of just saying things. It's a deeply realistic dilemma and handled so well. I want Phoon to take that step back because he deserves a chance to be out to his lover's family and to be able to be fully open and accepted and, frankly, Pierce can take his time without him.
But Jedi and Ray are just a BL couple. They're a pop star and his longtime fan that fell in love via VR and are now secretly together with Jedi basically willing to throw his career away from Ray and Ray thinking about breaking up because it feels so much like a dream. It's not realistic, it's not real at all, but it's still so much fun. And that's why I love it.
Then you have Ray and Phoon talking. Phoon talking about breaking up this long relationship he's been in, talking about giving up on changing Pierce, talking about the pain he's had hiding and the way he's so done... and you have Ray bemoaning that he's going to give up his dream because he can't believe he's loved back.
Which leads to the reactions of their respective loves.
Jedi comes home early, hears the conversation and basically says 'don't you dare, I want you, I love you, you're not breaking up with me because you think it's the right thing to do' and they're already at home and already in bed and it's great.
Pierce comes, is rejected by Phoon but ignores it, carries him to the car, he doesn't know Phoon is thinking about breaking up with him, he doesn't realize how much is weighing on him, he's just there for his boyfriend that he's been having (what he considers) a minor fight with who's been oddly distant. It's so, so different dynamically and feels different.
I want Jedi to kiss Ray. I want them to patch everything up and be happy and for all their issues to come from outside the relationship because I love them together.
I don't want Pierce to kiss Phoon. I want him to stop, I want Phoon to push him away, I need them to talk before anything happens. I want to see Phoon step out of their relationship. I want to see Pierce face that this is more serious than he thinks. I want them both to make a choice and be respected.
It's such a great dynamic for both couples to be on and I'm really enjoying this show. @absolutebl and this is why uke-uke friendships are just the best. There's just something about the vibes that are immaculate. I'm kinda grateful there isn't a full on seme-seme friendship in this, though.
