“One more song, y/n,” Lexi begs, tugging at your arm as you can’t help but laugh. “Come on, please.”
“I feel like my feet are about to fall off, Lex, I just need a little break.” you respond, and beside her, Rue and Jules jokingly pull faces at you, and you ignore your friends’ teasing remarks about being weak. Walking towards the tables, you continue, “Just a little break, I promise!”
Lexi pouts at you, before shrugging, turning back to dance with Rue and Jules as you collapse into a seat beside Cassie. She offers you a friendly smile, “Having fun?”
“Loads.” you chuckle, and she laughs with you. Getting to go to the winter formal with your friends is turning out to be as much fun as you hoped it would be, and you’ve almost exhausted yourself dancing the night away. You initially had reservations about going, but agreed to go when Lexi had asked you to.
“I’m glad you and Lexi finally got together.” Cassie suddenly remarks, and you turn to face her with a raised eyebrow. “The two of you are super cute.”
“Wait, we’re not... together together.” you quickly clarify. Shaking your head, you recall a comment Jules made about you and Lexi when her and Rue came to pick the two of you up. Tilting your head, you ask, “Why does everyone think we’re dating?”
Cassie blinks at you in surprise. She awkwardly backtracks, tracing patterns into the tablecloth as she slowly says, “Well... the two of you look really happy when you’re with each other. Lexi’s never talked to me about crushes, but I can tell that she really likes you.”
You stare at Cassie in shock, before turning to look at where Lexi jumps around with Rue and Jules, tilting her head back in laughter as the three of the goofily dance together. A strange feeling fills your chest, one full of joy and content, and a soft smile makes its way onto your face as you watch her. Lexi looks over her shoulder, catching your gaze, and she grins at you as she beckons for you to join her again.
Suddenly reenergised, you get to your feet. Before you rush off to join her, you turn to Cassie, “You’re right. I am really happy when I’m with her.”
