I’m making a fan recreation of Hannah and the Pirate Caves using HTML5 and Canvas! If anyone wants to pitch in, the things I still need are listed at the bottom of this post.
The Goal:
Create a version of Hannah and the Pirate Caves that doesn’t rely on Flash or another technology that could be deprecated in the near future. This game would include all of the features HatPC originally had, including the cave maker.
Already Completed:
Basic collision
Movement and gravity similar to the original game
Ability to break boxes by jumping on them (including the little bounce you get from the action)
Level mapping via text parsing (similar to the way custom caves would be exported as a square of monospaced text)
Sprites for boxes and arrow boxes
Currently Need Help With:
Pixel art! I can handle the programming myself, but since I’m not an artist the process of making sprites has been slow.
All sprites (save for Hannah, whose sprite will be 40px by 60px) are 40px by 40px. If you want to help me out, here’s what I haven’t designed yet:
Hannah and her various animations
Treasure chest
Metal box
Door to complete level
Wooden platform
Solid ground (three types, I believe?)
Cave background (full image, not 40x40)
Gem sprite (transparent to be placed on top of box sprites)
Heart sprite (same)
TNT sprite (same)
Boulder
Enemies (low priority at the moment)
Please contribute if you want to! I use pixilart.com to design my sprites.
If you decide to contribute, you will be credited! Just send me a link to your sprite and I will add it to the game! :)
If you don’t feel like contributing but support the idea of this fan recreation, a reblog would be greatly appreciated. If anyone is interested, I can post dev updates as I make progress! I can even explain how certain mechanics work and post code samples.
