so uhh in the trailer percy saying, "there's no place for me here," and annabeth saying, "you still don't know where you fit into all this?" and five years later nico saying, "i don't belong. that's obvious. no one wants me," and will saying, "nobody at camp halfblood ever pushed you away. you have friends - or at least people who would like to be your friend," is giving me uhh feelings

OKAY let’s talk about the Tunnel of Love clips in the new Percy Jackson trailer!

First off, so so happy this is gonna be on the show!

Second, there’s some really interesting things we can glean from the little we saw:

Here is a shot of Percy and Annabeth jumping into the water— this isn’t something they do in the book! So why would they need to?

Because of this:

We can tell this is the tunnel of love scene because Percy and Annabeth are soaked, the walls are the same as in the previous images, and that’s a statue of Aphrodite (the seashell being one indication); the statue itself is holding a shield of Ares (as evidenced by the boar head on it)

But WAIT there’s more! Look at the floor around their feet—

Are those mics? 👀 There are red lights that don’t make much sense with the surroundings, almost like the lights on cameras and other equipment that show they’re active/on. The pinprick looking lights on the sconces could be cameras too.

And IS that an Aphrodite statue? Because to me, she looks like an automaton

So my thinking is, they have to go inside the tunnel to fetch Ares’ shield, a change I very much like, and I think it makes the scene flow better! Much of the rest will be the same— they take the shield, it awakens the cameras, maybe the automaton comes to life. My theory when they cast Timothy Omundson as Hephaestus (despite the character not appearing until much later in the books) was we might get clips of him in the “OlympusTV” screen room, his reaction to these kids being there instead of Ares— but it looks like he COULD show up in this scene too!

Definitely fingers crossed the automaton spiders still play a role, so we get the conversation about Annabeth’s arachnophobia, but piecing things together, it looks like this segment of the show might be a little bit more action packed!
