I am sorry that you're been going through a hard time lately. I don't want to rub salt into the wound but what do you think about the Plance nebula in s8 teaser trailer? I won't be offended if you're not in the mood to answer me.
It’s ok anonymous grey circle, I appreciate your sympathy… It’s not really salt in the wound, I still want to interact with The Garden and Plance/ Voltron fan content. I just don’t feel like the canon matters one way or the other any longer. Nor do I feel like anything previously established will necessarily imply what is to come. Continuity feels secondary to the needs of executives and/or “surprises”.
From what I understand, the dreamworks Youtube channel released a series of edited images and audio from previous seasons and called that a trailer for season 8. Among the colored nebulae hastily made in some image editing software indicating Paladin colors past and present, one extra was thrown in that was green and blue to indicate Plance.
Honestly, the only sensible response is that there is simply not enough information to go on. Yes this was the official channel, no it does not mean whoever was told to make the trailer has any insight into the season ahead.
Plus, to be blunt… Official channels have repeatedly lied and misled. They are aware of the fandom and our groups and know how to tease us.
Cautious Bear says, it’s probably nothing, but nobody can know for sure. Before season six and seven I might have been giddy with excitement that MAYBE it’s official confirmation. Now though… I strongly suspect it’s just more fandom baiting.
Honestly, even if Season 8 did give canonical Plance… I’m not sure I’d be happy about it. There has been so much teasing, will they, won’t they, for plenty of ships. Some they seem to go super hard for only to drop and have them forgotten.
At this stage, a relationship should really be being built upon to blossom, a chance for the audience to actually enjoy the reality of it. To give the characters a chance to grow not just as individuals but now as a couple. But given the current methods, I honestly think anything could happen at the drop of a hat regardless of it being previously established.
Maybe Romelle will hook up with a Weblum or Vrepit Sal becomes the heir to the Galra throne. Maybe it all was just a dream or gets undone… And the fact it can’t be predicted should be exciting, but I’m not basing the multiple possible outcomes on the basis of previous continuity hinting at multiple avenues. I am stating without hyperbole that I think anything could happen. Suddenly. Jarringly. Info-dumped and sloppily expositioned into the show.
Does the Plance Nebula indicate the future? In my opinion probably not. Does that mean Plance will not be Canon? No way to know. Will Plance even become canon? Maybe it will, but if it’s handled as badly as other plot threads have been? Why would I want that? If it comes at the cost of all the other fans who have been baited, misled, lied to for the sake of a last second shock…? Why would that make me happy?
