New project. Storyboarding with a little colour.

So I’ve acquired a couple more DCSHG dolls, and I’ve been thinking about how to customize them. I have dolls at this point of all my favorite (girl) characters, and all the ones I consider sort of major players, so it’s mainly about aesthetics now.

Therefore, I have decided on Rose Wilson/Ravager and Duela Dent (the original version, not the frankly disturbing reboot chick who has the Joker’s face stuck to her face.)

It’s difficult to get a good picture of original Duela and not the creepy new one. She seems to come with red hair and green hair; the green hair will be more fun for a doll. There’s also a variety of outfits to choose from since she pretends to be the daughter of so many different villains. So far it’s been easier to find images of cosplays and of action figures than actual comic pages, but I’ll keep looking.

I have yet to find an actual comic page that features her with the steampunk look that’s popular for cosplay, so let me know if you know when/where that’s from.

Novel Planning Stages: Complete

And with this, I now have an outline filled out (which we all know will change as I write through anyway) - with November and NaNoWriMo officially started, I can finally dig deep into this story.

I’ve made some pretty interesting discoveries in the planning process and already have the ending in mind, plus a visit from characters I didn’t expect to see in this story.

Ah, this world has characters that just like to show up and meddle sometimes.

It’ll be fun writing another novel for this world. Interesting how all three of the main characters here have internal character arcs to work through as the plot just kind of pushes them forward whether they want it or not. I think this is the first time I’ve planned both character arcs and a main plot arc. Usually I just figure out a basic plot sketch and discover everything about the characters in the writing.

Anywho -

Scath has the goal of capturing every magic user since he doesn’t trust magic.

Zakiel has the opposite goal of rescuing every magic user and stopping the push to capture his kind.

And Muse just kind of gets caught up in this tug of war by having to argue that illusions aren’t magic and could you please not accuse her teacher of being a real magic user; they’re human; they can’t do magic; which convincing anyone of anything is rather difficult when you panic in social settings so she has quite the difficult goal laid out before her too.

I did finally decide whether or not I liked Leron, too (the Illusionist who is training Muse). So that’s good.

There’s mention of religious stuff, because the 5 or 6 different religions in my world are kinda deeply embedded in the culture, but I think only Zakiel is serious about his chosen religion - though he kinda goes against it, so that’s a whole other can of worms for him. And the other two have their own little paths to weigh in on their ideas of the different religions too and where they fit into it. I dunno, I made it all such a big part of my world and it’s interesting how there’s so many different points of view.

Hopefully none of them just spout my views. I don’t really want that in my characters. They’re their own people. They’re not me. Though some of their views might match mine just because... I’m writing it. I can’t avoid that. I hope I avoid preaching anything, though none of these religions are really modeled after my own so that would be weird anyway. 

On another note: my original plan was to explore a bit of the world in this southern continent, but that didn’t happen. I think it all takes place in one city. Ah, well. Maybe it’ll help keep it short and concise so I don’t turn into explorer mode and decide to take my characters running around the world just ‘cause. This way they stick to their goals and it’s a good exercise, I think. I need to learn to focus on plot/ character and less on world building as I’m writing.

Ah, I just want to keep exploring this world, though. It’s hard to stop. ;P
