my 'frankencactus' is going through a modest rebloom. this is a Thanksgiving cactus that i grafted a bunch of other holiday cactuses onto, as a boredom project. right now the pink and white flowers are in bloom, with the yellow close behind. there are also pieces of Easter cactus grafted on, but these are not yet due for reblooming.

INCIDENT UPDATE

Biological outbreak in Lab 41 last week was caused by a staff member consuming a numbered plant specimen, mistakenly thinking it was a green herb. The employee has been disciplined and contained.

Hi! I really enjoy hearing about your herb/potion adventures, and have started exploring some myself!

I was wondering if you've considered creating some type of master post of your experiments, findings, tried & true recipes, etc.

I would love to use it as a reference, understanding that it's a try-at-your-own-risk & do-your-research sort of thing.

Is that something you might consider?

I mean I have my homesteading masterlist, but I guess I didn't make one specifically for herbs and plant experiments, I'm simply not that confident in them yet! It's reassuring to know that you understand these are try-at-your-risk, and do-your-own-research type of thing, but I do get worried that not everyone might understand that.

I'm happy you asked though, and yeah I am considering it! I think I'll wait until I know a bit more, and can offer more actual successes, a lot of my experiments fail and sometimes you hear about it, sometimes I just fail to mention it again to not be depressed about it. (for instance, all of my ferments failed, and I just stopped trying it, I will gather confidence in the future)

Ok, I was inspired to pot up some Marble Queen and Jade Pothos together in a pot.

The Jade (2 cuttings) are freshly cut while the Marble Queen (the rest of the cuttings) were cut a week or 2 ago and placed in water to root. They were just beginning to show signs of root emergence.

Theroetically, the Jade should grow much faster than the Marble Queen.

Moss experiments are coming along better than I expected. And more quickly, too. Perhaps I have a magic touch with mosses, eh? They are sending out tendrils and new growth which is anchoring to the wood. I keep a bit of water in the bottom of the storage tote. The driftwood soaks it up like a sponge, creating an ideal environment for the moss to grow onto. Please note this is NOT java moss. It is local moss I got from outside.

The anubias that was growing in my aquarium has produced a new leaf. The old leaves are withering where they were half-decomposed and covered in algae. I am also happy to see this experiment is successful.
