Based on brutal by Olivia Rodrigo, aka the most Alastair song on Sour™️. This is technically the first part of Tattoo Artist!Alastair but it’s more like a drabble. I skip lyrics as I go to give the impression of the sign going as I write

Where’s My F*cking Teenage Dream?
This has got to be the longest day in history, Alastair thought to himself as he sketched absentmindedly on his sketch pad. The day had been slow at the tattoo parlor he owned with his friends (basically his family at this point) and there had probably only been three clients in total.
“Do you know what we need?” Kamala asked from where she was sitting on the countertop, putting little braids in Grace’s hair. Alastair looked at her with a raised eyebrow
“Music!” Grace smirked and bent back to connect her phone to the speaker next to Alastair. A familiar beat started pouring out from the speakers almost instantly.
I want it to be, like, messy
Eugenia started dancing out of the back as soon as she heard the music. “Please tell me you guys aren’t having an Olivia Rodrigo dance party without me!”
That I’ll die before I drink
Alastair rolled his eyes and continued working on his sketch, it was coming along quite nicely.
And I’m so caught up in the news
Of who likes me and who hates you
So far it was a mix of pastel purple and flowers; sweet peas, daisies, asters, and morning glory. It would make a good tattoo for someone, especially the person he had in mind.
All I did was try my best
This the kind of thanks I get?
Unrelentlessly upset (ah-ah-ah)
“C’mon Alastair! The sketch can wait, dance with us!” Kamala said as she danced over to him. He glanced over to see Eugenia and Grace twirling each other around and giggling as they sang the lyrics off-key.
They say these are the golden years
But I wish I could disappear
Alastair looked back at his sketch. “I’m fine.” he started shading one of the stems of the daisies on the paper, hoping his best friend would drop it.
God, it’s brutal out here
“I refuse to leave you out of this! Everyone needs to dance it out at some point Alastair!” Kamala grabbed his wrist and proceeded to pull him out of the chair.
I feel like no one wants me
And I hate the way I’m perceived
“I really don’t want to-” he tried to say but Kamala wasn’t having any of it.
I only have two real friends
And lately, I’m a nervous wreck
“Don’t want to hear it! Dance it out!”
‘Cause I love people I don’t like
And I hate every song I write
He stood there without moving for a few seconds before slowly moving along to the beat.
And I’m not cool, and I’m not smart
And I can’t even parallel park
“You can dance better than that, Alas! This is your song!” Grace called out from where she was doing what she called “classic white girl dance moves”.
Got a broken ego, broken heart
Alastair really started to feel the music, grabbing a pen from off the counter and pretending it was a microphone as he sang into it.
And God, I don’t even know where to start
“Repeat?” Alastair asked hopefully as the music started to turn into traitor.
“God yes!” His friends cheered as he went over to restart the music.
They were all screaming the lyrics, dancing around, taking turns twirling each other. The four of them were giggling and taking turns lip-synching different parts of the chorus.
And I’m so tired that I might
Quit my job, start a new life
Alastair sang over the music, smiling so much that he felt that his face might split open.
And they’d all be so disappointed
‘Cause who am I if not exploited
“Woo! Go off Alastair!” Eugenia shouted as she and Kamala did a mock waltz.
And I’m so sick of seventeen
Where’s my fucking teenage dream?
Alastair stopped singing when he heard clapping from the doorway. He turned to see Thomas leaning against the doorway with a heart-stopping grin on his face, Kit having gone to dance with Grace as they did ~groovy~ dance moves.
If someone tells me one more time
“Enjoy your youth”, I’m gonna cry
Thomas looked concerned when Alastair had suddenly stopped. “Oh please don’t stop on my account. I found your singing quite lovely actually.”
Alastair immediately felt flush rising up his neck, embarrassed that Thomas had seen him like this.
And I don’t stick up for myself
I’m anxious and nothing can help
He flushed more when his boyfriend came up to him and wrapped his arms around his waist, by instinct, Alastair wrapped his own arms around Thomas’s neck.
And I wish I’d done this before
“Can I have this dance, Mr. Carstairs?” Thomas joked in a faux-posh tone.
Alastair rolled his eyes fondly at him before kissing Thomas’s cheek to make him blush. “Yes you may, Mr. Lightwood.”
And I wish people liked me more
They went through almost the entire album before Christopher stopped them, remembering the reason he had tagged along with Thomas in the first place.
“Gracie and I were supposed to go see this new sci-fi movie after her shift.” he explained as he and Grace linked their pinkies and walked out.
The other couples said their goodbyes and went their separate ways. Alastair and Thomas were walking to Alastair’s car when Thomas spoke up again.
“Would you sing for me again? I quite liked it, I think your voice is very lovely.” he asked quietly, not looking at Alastair, but Alastair could tell his cheeks were flushed.

Might do a second part where Thomas gets the tattoo that Alastair was sketching in an earlier part of the fic, but I dunno about that yet
