treated them like friends or children (ie tea parties, playing house)

i didn't play with dolls as a kid

Doll Shit™: gen1 2016 Frankie Stein vs. gen3. I don’t feel especially compelled by the gen3s, but I do prefer the proportions (greater height, bigger hands) on the new Frankie. The finish is a lot better than the budget dolls, but not quite as good as early and mid gen1. Note gen1 Frankie’s “chromed” accessories. Also, it’s weird that gen3 Frankie doesn’t come with a stand. As of writing this sentence, they have thunked loudly onto the surface of the desk.

Some of my friends are pretty into the gen3s. If you’re thinking about it, they seem solid? Draculaura in particular looks good, but I’ve never particularly liked her so she wasn’t going on the shelf. I’m unlikely to pick up any more gen3s unless they release a good Spectra Vondergeist or a Wydowna.

Someone fairly new to doll collecting asked where the community is at, like with photo challenges and themes and discussion.

I kinda opted out when flickr and dollydaily stopped being so frequented. I wasn’t in a great place and wanted to focus on the thrift and repair side of things (and a more closely curated bunch of people who understand chronic illness and what I didn’t know at the time is probably ADHD: you know the sporadic bursts of communication then we don’t talk for two years but that’s still friendship to me and if you posted “folks i’m feeling miserable rn is there anybody out there”, i’d be loading up whatever chat program you’re on with my best stupid memes and animals being friends photos)

So where would a playline doll collector start nowadays? Any instagram accounts or hashtags or youtubers that galvanize the audience into posting their fave redhead and thoughts on new releases and that sort of stuff?

Peplies are open, pms too & please boost. Dollblrs great for a lot of things but we’re not exactly doing pink wednesdays and coachella challenges or your dolly doppleganger, stuff like that.

Has anyone heard of zeenie dolls before? I came across them while browsing target's website for a she ra doll. The line is all about recycling and the environment and the dolls themselves are also made from recycled plastic.

She has a vinyl head, hands and feet, with more articulation than a fair amount of playline/fashion dolls (although the waist and head only swivel--no up-down or tilting). Her hip joints are kinda loose and feel like they're strung like a bjd, but they're actually a peg and socket.

The clothing is also really nice quality. The knit is thick and the print on it is nice and crisp.
