Thinking about the wasted potential of Pretty Little Liars : Original Sin again. I believe the 2022 timeline with Imogen and her friends was unnecessary and uninteresting HOWEVER, I do believe it had potential! There’s two reasons as to why it didn’t work : 1) They had the girls be related to the 1999 Liars and 2) The girls weren’t even Liars, they did not have dirty secrets that could have ruined their lives. They were completely passive in what was happening to them because they did nothing wrong nor did they have anything to do with what happened 22 years before.
And yet, when you look at their storylines, there was a LOT of potential in each of them to make them more like the girls from the og show! Karen was mad at Imogen for allegedly kissing her boyfriend, when it wasn’t consensual on Imogen’s part… But what if it had been, though? What if Imogen’s pregnancy had been the result of a consensual relationship with her best friend’s boyfriend and she had to hide it from Karen? What if instead of Kelly existing, her arc was given to Imogen? She could have been Karen’s secretly jealous best friend and after Karen dies, we could have seen her slowly try to impersonate and mimic Karen’s looks and mannerisms to the point where it becomes creepy and suspicious (this would also have given Karen’s character an actual purpose in the story)? What if Faran did actually try to sabotage Karen to get the role of the Black Swan because of the pressure her mother put on her to be the best? What if Tabby had stolen someone’s movie idea for a contest (similar to how Spencer stole Melissa’s essay)? What if Noa had been an insecure girl who did do drugs to get supplements for her boyfriend in order to get his approval or something? And what if Minnie was, Idk, cyberbullying people? And “A” could have been using all of that against them!
